  461 SCV to Oz PR best approach

  Hi Forum Members

  I’m pleased and excited to join this forum. I joined the forum today.

  I’m a NZ citizen who started working in Melbourne in May 2023 and my family is with me since Feb 2024 on a 461 SCV.

  I wanted to know and explore the quickest and the best way for them to get Australian PR for them.

  Any advice is appreciated

  As a New Zealand citizen with your family on a Subclass 461 visa, here are key pathways to Australian PR:

  1. Subclass 189 (New Zealand Stream): You may qualify if you’ve lived in Australia for at least 4 years and meet income/health criteria. Once you get PR, your family can apply as dependents.   2. Subclass 186 (Employer Nomination Scheme): If your employer sponsors you, you could apply for PR, including your family. More details here: https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/getting-a-visa/visa-listing/employer-nomination-scheme-186

  3. Subclass 190 or 491 (State-Sponsored Skilled Visa): If your occupation is on Victoria’s Skilled Migration List, you could pursue PR through state nomination. Check eligibility here: https://liveinmelbourne.vic.gov.au/

  4. Family PR Pathways: Once you gain PR or citizenship, your family could apply for Partner (Subclass 820/801) or Child (Subclass 101/802) visas. Learn more: https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/family

  Unsure which of these options resonates the most however I hope this helps as a starting point.

  Many Thanks Mark for providing the pathways options.

  Option 1 and 4 are not going to work cos I’m on a 444 SCV and haven’t got Australian PR. I have been here since May 2023 and definitely rules out the ‘eligible New Zealand Citizen’ path.

  Will weigh the Options 2 or 3 and check which works best in our favour.
