• 482 for teaching position

Hi, Im Carla from the Philippines, I would like to ask if there’s a pathway for me there through sponsorship and what are the steps.

I have been teaching for almost 7 years now in the Junior Highschool in a public school here. My bachelor’s deg is Business Admin. But took 18 units of education units here in state university, I have units of Field Study and student teaching for two semesters which are included in my credentials. I am also a Girl’s Scout Troop leader in our school which assist our girls when joining outside of the school activities.

Currently I have existing TV600 visa multiple entry and been there once 2mos ago.

Is there any pathway I can make to work there related to my experiences?

I also have customer service experience for almost ten years as a front liner in courier company here.

    Thanks in advance

    Hi Carla,

Thanks for sharing your details. Based on your background and experience, here’s a clear and straightforward look at your possible pathways to teaching in Australia through visa subclass 482 (Skills in Demand):

    1. Relevant ANZSCO codes for teaching
Your experience fits most closely with ANZSCO 241311 (Middle School Teacher) or 241411 (Secondary School Teacher) if you have taught older students. Both occupations require a Bachelor’s degree (preferably in Education or an equivalent field), a supervised practicum, and registration with the state or territory’s teacher regulatory authority.

    2. Skill assessment via AITSL
To qualify, you must apply to the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) for a skills assessment. They will check if your credentials, including your degree, education units, practicum, and teaching experience, meet Australian standards. If gaps are found, you may need to complete further study or upgrading.

    3. Is teaching on the approved lists for a 482 visa?
Yes. Teacher roles (e.g. Secondary or Middle School Teacher) appear on the Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL) used for the SID subclass 482 visa. This means if you get a valid job offer and skills assessment, a sponsoring employer can nominate you.

    4. English language requirements
You must meet the required level of English proficiency: for the medium‑term stream of the 482 visa, that means typically IELTS overall 5.0 (minimum 5 in each band) or equivalent (TOEFL, OET, PTE). Some roles or employers may require higher scores, so it’s good to check.

    5. Path forward for your profile
Given you have a Bachelor in Business Admin with only education units, you likely require either:

    • a full teaching qualification (e.g. postgraduate Diploma or Bachelor of Education), or

    • completion of missing coursework/practicum to reach equivalence.

Once verified by AITSL, you can seek Australian school employers (public/private) willing to sponsor via subclass 482.

    6. What’s next?
    – Contact AITSL to begin a skills assessment for an ANZSCO teaching code
    – If gaps are identified, explore further education options with an approved Australian institution
    – Prepare to take an approved English test
    – Search job boards, ideally requesting opportunities where sponsorship is offered

    7. Using our job search resources
For roles offering Australia Visa sponsorship, start at 482jobs.com. Even though your background is in teaching, you may find relevant listings there. You can also search Seek (https://seek.com.au) and Indeed (https://indeed.com.au), but use search terms like “visa sponsorship” or “482 visa teaching” as most jobs there do not automatically include sponsorship.

    Summary
At present, your credentials are promising but likely not yet equivalent to an Australian teaching qualification.

Your next key step is applying for an AITSL skills assessment. If approved or with minor study to upgrade, you can then pursue employer-sponsored subclass 482 for teacher roles like Secondary or Middle School Teacher (ANZSCO 241311, 241411).

I hope this helps clarify the pathway. Feel free to ask any follow-up questions.

Best wishes for your journey to Australia.

    Regards

    Mark
