Advice please – recruitment agencies / sponsorship
Posted by Rachel on January 22, 2025 at 7:22 amHi all, I am finding it really difficult to find vacancies in the Perth area for our skills. My husband is a deputy chief of an airport fire section, he has numerous qualifications for risk assessments and a highly regarded emergency planning qualification. I am in the police as a digital media investigator but it is a police staff role not a police officer so I am not eligible to join the police.
I am finding it impossible to find jobs because anything that may be applicable to my husband says Australian citizens. Does that mean they definitely won’t take UK residents on a sponsorship visa or is it still worth making contact?
Someone recommended signing up to recruitment agencies but I can’t even seem to find any of those that ‘sign people up’
Does anyone have any advice please?
Thank you

Hiya Rachel, and welcome to our community. Welcome, and welcome to the joys and frustrations of Australian Visa
I am finding it impossible to find jobs because anything that may be applicable to my husband says Australian citizens. Does that mean they definitely won’t take UK residents on a sponsorship visa or is it still worth making contact?
Generally, if the job advertisement specifically calls out Australian Citizens only, this is either because they have government-related roles (that often only accept citizens for security purposes) or because they genuinely aren’t open to visa sponsorship. You could always try reaching out to them, but I really wouldn’t hold your breath.
A couple of questions.
- Are you only interested in Perth, would you consider other states?
- Does this description align with your husbands experience, or is it quite different (I took a bit of a stab on this one to be honest). ?
- Your role sounds interesting, though I have no idea what you do Is it known as some other name from an occupation perspective? This will help me better align you with occupations that might be aligned with certain visa types.
A few resources
Migration WA – has some helpful links on processes and services open to overseas migrants.
482jobs.com – our website / job board specialised in advertising job in Australia offering Visa Sponsorship – not a fee is payable to unlock the application process (<$1) but you can browse all the jobs for free to give you an idea of the roles being sponsored.
Titan Recruitment – one of the larger recruitment companies in Perth – also manages a large number of roles offering visa sponsorship.
Micheal Page – Global recruitment firm but a bug presence/recruiter here in WA.
I hope this helps for starters. If you can get back to me on the questions and I’ll see if I can assist further.
Cheers
Mark

Thanks Mark this is so helpful. Looking at the link you sent the commissioned fire officer I guess would be what my husband does now. Is that job on the list for UK citizens?
My job is basically an investigator in CID and what comes with that so investigating crimes, interviews suspects etc etc but I specialise in the gathering of digital evidence so seizing and download of phones, CCTV, downloading routers, that kind of thing. But I am a civilian don’t a police officer.
Hope that makes sense!

Hi Rachel, your husband’s occupation qualifies for a Regional Sponsor Migration Scheme (subclass 187). So, from an Aussie government perspective, he can be sponsored, though he will still need an Australian employer to sponsor him first – more info here on this visa type. https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/getting-a-visa/visa-listing/regional-sponsor-migration-scheme-187

In relation to your role (which sounds very cool by the way)!
A few examples I found include:224999 – Information and Organisation Professionals (nec)
This category is for professionals in specialised fields like forensic analysis or digital investigations who don’t fit into a more specific classification. Your work in gathering and analysing digital evidence (e.g., seizing phones, downloading routers, analysing CCTV) might align here, especially if the primary focus is technical expertise.
or
262112 – ICT Security Specialist
If your role heavily focuses on digital forensics or cybersecurity (e.g., recovering digital evidence or analysing devices for criminal investigations), this classification might be relevant. It applies to those who secure, monitor, and investigate digital systems or networks.
The latter is a good one as it’s on the main occupation lists, so it qualifies for a potential visa independently of a sponsor.
I’m unsure if your skills align with this one.
