CoE Obtained, but PTE Score has Expired
Posted by PrajyotSingh on March 13, 2025 at 3:03 pmGreetings! My PTE score expired on March 1, 2025, and I received my Confirmation of Enrollment (CoE) today, March 6.
Can I proceed with my visa application now, or should I wait?
I intend to take the PTE exam again on March 16 and would like to know if I can update my application with the new score later this month.
Any insights or recommendations from the community would be incredibly helpful as I navigate this process for my Australian migration journey.

Hi Prajit, welcome to the Oz Visa Forum Community! 👋🏼🙃
Your Pearson Test of English (PTE) score must be valid at the time of your student visa (subclass 500) application.
Since it expired on March 1, 2025, you cannot use it for your visa lodgment.
Here’s what I recommend you should do:
- Wait until you get your new PTE score – Since you are taking the test on March 16, it’s best to wait until you receive your results before applying for your visa.
- Ensure your new score meets the English requirements – The Department of Home Affairs requires a minimum score, depending on your course type. You can check the latest requirements here: https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au
- Lodge your visa application only once you have a valid PTE score – You cannot update your application later with a new PTE result if your previous one has already expired at the time of submission.
It’s great that you already have your CoE (Confirmation of Enrollment for the benefit of any other members reading), so as soon as you get your new PTE score, you can proceed with the visa lodgment.
I hope this helps! Feel free to let me know if you have any other questions.
All the best
Mark

Thank you Mark, I’ll wait the few extra days and retake the test first. I’m very appreciative of the reply.
Thanks again!
