Hi everyone, I am Tim, a construction project manager based in South Africa. I am looking for an employer-sponsorship opportunity for Visa 482.

I have 15+ years of experience managing the planning, design, and execution of civil engineering and building projects.13 out of my 15 years of experience have been at my current employer as a construction project manager.

I have a positive outcome on a VETASSESS skills assessment for Construction Project Manager-ANZSCO Code: 133111).

I am also a Chartered Building Professional, registered at a grade of MAIB with the Australian Institute of Building (AIB)

    I hold:

    · A Bachelor of Science Honours degree in Construction Project Management,

    · A Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management and;

    · A Diploma in Construction Science.

Any connection or advice that can assist in increasing my chances of getting sponsorship will be very much appreciated.

Welcome, Tim, and thanks for your post. Construction Project Manager under ANZSCO 133111 qualify for a decent range of Visas:

    1. Employer-Sponsored Visas:

482 (Temporary Skill Shortage): Immediate work visa with potential PR via subclass 186.

494 (Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional): Regional-focused, PR pathway after 3 years.

    2. Points-Tested Skilled Visas:

189 (Skilled Independent): No sponsorship is needed; it is based solely on points.

190 (Skilled Nominated): Requires state/territory nomination.

491 (Skilled Work Regional): State or family sponsorship for regional areas.

    3. Other Pathways:

407 (Training Visa): Temporary visa to gain structured Australian work experience.

Family-Sponsored 491: If you have relatives in regional areas.

It may be a good idea to progress a search for roles in support of 482/494 for sponsorship and in parallel; lodge an Expression of Interest (EOI) for 189, 190, or 491 through SkillSelect.

    All the best

    Hi Mark,

Thank you for sharing your advice and insights. While I continue to explore the Expression of Interest (EOI) pathway for the Subclass 491 Visa through SkillSelect, I am also considering other potential options.

Your mention of the Subclass 407 Visa is particularly intriguing, as this is my first time hearing about it. It certainly seems like an option worth exploring further through my professional network.

I truly appreciate you bringing this to my attention—it’s been incredibly helpful.

It’s certainly an option worth considering Tim as it could give you 2 years of experience here in Australia to further your network while gaining some Australian experience.

I’d recommend engaging with bodies like the Australian Institute of Building (AIB) https://aib.org.au/ or Engineers Australia https://www.engineersaustralia.org.au/

They may be able to connect you with employers seeking candidates with your experience offering training opportunities.

Best of luck and please keep in touch as you progress your journey down under 👍🏻
