    Welcome, Vije 🙂

    Hi Vije,

It’s great you’re considering moving to Australia with your extensive cyber security experience. Since your occupation, ICT Security Specialist (ANZSCO 262112), is on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL), you have several strong migration pathways available.

Key steps for your migration process:

    1. Skills Assessment:

Your occupation requires a skills assessment through the Australian Computer Society (ACS). You’ll need to provide qualifications (such as a degree in IT or a related field) and evidence of work experience (minimum of 2 years or equivalent post-qualification work, depending on your background).

Learn more about the ACS skills assessment process here: https://www.acs.org.au/

    2. Choose a Visa Pathway:

Common visas for MLTSSL occupations include:

Skilled Independent Visa (Subclass 189): No sponsorship required.

Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190): Requires state/territory nomination.

Skilled Work Regional Visa (Subclass 491): Requires regional sponsorship.

You’ll need to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) via SkillSelect to be invited for these visas.

    3. Points Test:

Points are awarded for age, qualifications, work experience, English proficiency, and other factors. A minimum of 65 points is required, but higher scores improve your chances.

Use this points calculator to estimate: https://gettingdownunder.com/australian-migration-points-calculator/

    4. State Nomination:

Some states/territories prioritise ICT professionals. Research specific state requirements (e.g., NSW, Victoria, or Queensland) as they often nominate ICT Security Specialists.

    5. English Language Test:

Tests such as IELTS, PTE, or TOEFL are required unless exempt. Higher scores improve points. Even though you are from the UK, I’d still take the test as you can get many extra points for having ‘superior level English.’

Lots of info here, though I hope thus helps get you started.

Feel free to ask if you have any additional questions. 👍

    Hi Mark,

Many thanks for your detailed response.

I already have expressions of interests created for 189, 190 and 491 routes with skills assessments still valid until July25, and I have a superior English with PTE, also valid for another 2 years..

Just that I’m unable to get any invites for over 18 months, and therefore looking for alternative routes such as sponsorship visas.

Hoping I might get some help in this forum.

    Regards

    Vijendra

How many points did you receive in your calculation, Vije?

For alternative approaches in the interim. The 482 Visa option might be one worth considering,

I’d recommend reviewing our current job vacancies on our website at https://482jobs.com/

If we don’t have anything suitable right now, consider registering a couple of job alerts for the terms

    cyber and

    internet security

This way we can email you from 482job if we add any role in the future that may be suitable for you,

More info on setting job alerts can be viewed here: https://482jobs.com/set-an-australian-sponsored-job-e-mail-alert/

    Regards

    Hey Mark,

Apologies for the delays in responding to you.

    My points scores are:

    189: 70

    190: 75

    491: 85

Nothing’s moving, as I suspect the scores may not hit the bar?

I will take a look at 482 jobs, many thanks.

Hi Vije, did you compete an IELTS or similar exam?

Also, you may benefit from connecting with @Tommy who also works in the cyber space but appears a little ahead of you from a timing perspective.

We discussed his Australian points score and the lack of interest he is getting to his EOIs (though Tommy was able to lock in an extra 20 points for English by taking a test despite being from an English Speaking Country – hence me checking in that you have done the same 🙂)

Seems to be a tough occupation at the moment which is crazy given the need for cyber capabilities here in Australia. The mind boggles🤷‍♂️

    All the best
