  • EOI – Outline Unrelated Work Experience in Job History

    Hello everyone,

I’m seeking guidance on how to approach my Expression of Interest (EOI) for Australian migration regarding my employment history.

Specifically, should I include work experience that is not directly relevant to my current career path over the past decade?

For instance, my employment history looks like this:

    1. <some date>-2018 – <some date>-2021: Crew Member at Maccas
    2. <some date>-2021 – <some date>-2022: Web Developer Intern at Company A
    3. <some date>-2022 – <some date>-2022: UI/UX Designer at Company B
    4. <some date>-2024 – present: Software Engineer at Company C (This role is the only one I’ve included in my ACS skills assessment)

Should I still list roles 1 through 3 and mark “No” for the question “Is this employment related to the nominated occupation?”

My actual employment history contains several more positions—around seven that are not relevant—so I’m uncertain about the necessity of adding them just to indicate that they’re not applicable.

    Thanks guys

    Jo

Hi Jo and welcome to Oz Visa Forum ☺️

To answer your question, yes, you should include all employment history in your Expression of Interest (EOI), even if some roles are unrelated to your nominated occupation.

However, when adding those jobs, you can select “No” for the question “Is this employment related to the nominated occupation?”

This ensures that only relevant experience is considered for points while still maintaining full disclosure.

There is no requirement to list every single job if they were short-term or casual roles, but it’s generally good practice to include anything significant to avoid gaps in your employment timeline.

If any of your previous jobs contributed to the minimum work experience requirement for your Australian Computer Society (ACS) skills assessment, they should be included as related work experience (which in your case seems to be only the Software Engineer role).

Let me know if you need further clarification!

    All the best

    Mark
