  • Extended Processing Duration Australia Student Visa

    Hello everybody

I submitted my application for an Australian student visa on January 9th, 2025, along with a bank statement reflecting 13.5 million PKR.

My chosen institution, the University of New South Wales (UNSW), had scheduled my master’s program to start on February 17th; however, I have decided to defer my semester start date to June 2nd.

Currently, I am still awaiting the approval of my visa, and the prolonged processing time is generating a considerable amount of stress.

Interestingly, my employer contacted me yesterday to confirm my job offer in Australia. Despite this positive development, the visa processing at the embassy is taking longer than anticipated.

Has anyone else experienced similar delays with their Australian visa applications?

What is the typical wait time for student visa approvals?

I’m feeling anxious and uncertain about my situation and would appreciate any insights or shared experiences from the community.

Hi Ayesha, and welcome to Oz Visa Forum 🤗

It’s understandable to feel anxious about the wait. Australian student visa (Subclass 500) processing times can vary based on several factors, including your country of application, the completeness of your documents, and the overall visa backlog.

As of now, the Department of Home Affairs provides estimated processing times, which typically range from 4 to 6 weeks for 75-90% of applications, but some may take longer.

Because you applied on January 9th and are still waiting, it might be worth checking your ImmiAccount to make sure no additional documents or requests are pending.

Since you have deferred your course to June 2nd, this should not affect your visa approval, but you may want to upload a new Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) reflecting the updated start date if required.

If your employer’s job offer involves a work visa (such as the Subclass 482 Temporary Skill Shortage visa), you might want to explore whether that would be a better or faster pathway, depending on your circumstances.

If your wait continues beyond normal processing times, you can submit an enquiry through the Global Service Centre or contact your nearest Australian visa office.

I hope this helps. I wish you the best with your visa approval! Let us know how it goes.

    Regards

    Mark
