• How to Get Visa Sponsorship for Meat Cutter / Butcher Work in Australia

Posted by Paul JamesMember - Located in Philippines on September 5, 2025 at 11:31 pm

      Hello everyone,

I am currently based in the Philippines and have over 7 years of experience as a Butcher/Meat Cutter and Dairy Farm Worker, with certification in Slaughtering Operations NC II. My background also includes skills in warehouse operations and truck driving.

I am very interested in working in Australia and would like to ask:

      · What is the best way to find employers who offer visa sponsorship for skilled workers like butchers, meat cutters, or drivers?

      · Are there recommended agencies or official job boards that are safe and legitimate?

      · For those who successfully moved to Australia, what documents or steps should I prepare early (e.g., skills assessment, English test, medical, etc.)?

Any guidance, resources, or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help.

      Best regards,

      Paul James

Hi Paul, welcome to the forum and thanks for your detailed introduction. Your experience is highly relevant to Australia’s labour shortages, especially in regional areas where employers often sponsor overseas workers.

Here are clear steps to help you:

      1. Finding jobs with Australia Visa sponsorship

Start with our dedicated job board: https://482jobs.com – every listing here has already been verified as offering Australia Visa sponsorship. For your field, check:

Trades & Services jobs (includes butcher roles): https://482jobs.com/job-category/trades-services/

Farming, Animals & Conservation jobs (covers farm work): https://482jobs.com/job-category/farming-animals-conservation/

We did recently have a couple of butcher roles on the site but they have since been filled. I’d recommend registering a free account and set a job alert for butcher so we can email you when appropriate roles are added.

Other than 482jons, you can also look at Seek (https://seek.com.au) and Indeed (https://indeed.com.au). Use keywords like “butcher visa sponsorship” or “482 visa”. Be careful as most jobs on those sites do not offer sponsorship (unlike 482jobs.com where all are pre-checked).

      2. Occupation lists and visas

Butchers/Meat Cutters (ANZSCO 321211) are on the Regional Occupation List (ROL). This means the main visa pathways are:

      • Subclass 482 (Temporary Skill Shortage visa) – regional stream.
      • Subclass 494 (Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional visa).

In some cases, employers later nominate workers for permanent residency through subclass 186.

Dairy Cattle Farmer (ANZSCO 121313) is also on the ROL, so regional sponsorship applies.

      3. Steps to prepare early

Skills assessment: Butchers usually need an assessment through Trades Recognition Australia (TRA).

English test: For most sponsored visas, you will need IELTS, PTE, or equivalent. Minimum is usually IELTS 5.0 overall, but higher is better.

Health and character checks: All applicants must pass medical exams and provide police clearances.

Documents: Prepare your work references, certificates (e.g., NC II Slaughtering), training records, and payslips to support your application.

      4. Agencies and safety

Only deal with employers directly or Australian-based registered migration agents. We have access to an agent we can refer you to for an initial 1:1 assessment (they charge for this service) or you can search check if an agent is registered here: https://www.mara.gov.au

Avoid paying large upfront fees to overseas recruiters. Genuine Australian employers do not ask workers to pay for sponsorship.

      5. Extra tips

      1. Upload your CV to 482jobs.com here: https://482jobs.com/candidates/submit-resume/ – this increases visibility to Australian employers.
      2. Make sure your resume is in the correct Australian style. This guide will help: https://482jobs.com/australia-resume-tips-craft-winning-resume/
      3. Search and connect with the other community members who are butchers to follow each others journeys, share tips and more. See here, then click on the member tab)

I recommend you start with job applications now while preparing your documents in the background.

I hope this gives you a clear roadmap. Feel free to ask more if you need help with specific steps. Wishing you the best of luck with your journey to Australia!

      All the best
