    Hi Abraham,

It depends on the type of visa you are applying for. If you are looking for an employer-sponsored visa, such as the Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa (subclass 482) or the Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) visa (subclass 186), then yes, you must first secure a job offer from an employer.

Here’s how the process works for an employer-sponsored visa:

    1. Find an Employer – The employer must be willing to sponsor you. You can search for jobs with sponsorship on 482jobs.com, which lists only sponsored jobs. Other job search sites include Seek and Indeed.

    2. Employer Applies for Sponsorship – The employer must be an approved Standard Business Sponsor (SBS) or apply to become one.

    3. Employer Nominates You – The employer submits a nomination application to the Department of Home Affairs, specifying your job role.

    4. You Apply for the Visa – Once the nomination is approved, you can apply for your visa.

If you are applying for a skilled independent visa, like the Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189), you do not need an employer. Instead, you submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) through SkillSelect, and if invited, you can apply for the visa independently.

I hope this clears things up! Let me know if you need further clarification.

    Regards

    Mark
