Immigration to Australia
Posted by sheethalmatta on June 3, 2025 at 5:56 pmHi Everyone,
I’m new to this forum. I’m looking to immigrate to Australia with my family. I’m a South African citizen and I have over 22 years of PA/Admin experience. Are companies in Australia looking for candidates like me? What are my options. My qualifications are Diploma and certificate in the same field. I also have 20 year’s of experience in caregiver and aged (no qualifications). Any help or advice would be appreciated 👍

Welcome to our community Sheethal, and thanks for your introduction! 👋
With your background in both administration and caregiving, it’s a bit of a mixed bag. Here’s a quick overview:
1. Administration/Personal Assistant Work: Unfortunately, roles like Personal Assistant or general admin officer are not currently on the main skilled occupation lists (MLTSSL, STSOL, ROL), so employer sponsorship would be your main option.
Some regional areas or DAMA (Designated Area Migration Agreement) regions may offer limited options, but competition is strong.
If you want to look for employer-sponsored jobs:
https://482jobs.com – This is one of our own websites and all jobs here offer Australia Visa Sponsorship.
You can browse general admin or assistant jobs here: https://482jobs.com/job-category/administration-office-support/
Also check: https://seek.com.au and https://indeed.com.au
2. Aged Care / Caregiver Work: This is a more promising pathway. Even though you mentioned no formal qualifications, your 20 years of experience could be very valuable. The ANZSCO occupation “423313 – Personal Care Assistant” may align well.
However, to be eligible for visa sponsorship, you will usually need:
Formal qualifications (e.g. Certificate III in Individual Support, which you might be able to study in Australia or have RPL—Recognition of Prior Learning—assessed).
A relevant employer willing to sponsor you.
You can explore aged care jobs with sponsorship here:

To improve your chances:
Consider getting your skills formally recognised through RPL in aged care.

I hope this gives you a helpful starting point! Feel free to share more details if you’d like me to look deeper into your visa options or assist with job targeting.
Warm regards,
Mark

Hi Mark,
Thanks for the valuable information. Much appreciated. Another question, Should I come to Australia on a visitor visa, can I convert it to a work visa if I get a job offer? Also I have a paternal uncle residing in Sydney, can he help in any way? Please share your thoughts. Thanks again

Hi Sheethal,
You’re very welcome. Great follow-up questions. 😊
1. Coming on a Visitor Visa and Seeking Work:
This is a very common question, and it’s important to understand the risks involved. You can come to Australia on a Visitor Visa (subclass 600) to explore the country and attend job interviews, but you are not legally allowed to work or engage in activities that could be seen as work, such as trial shifts. Also:
-
If you receive a job offer while on a visitor visa, you cannot start working until you’ve applied for and been granted a valid work visa.
-
You also cannot apply for most work visas (like the 482 Temporary Skill Shortage visa) while you are in Australia on a visitor visa due to section 48 bar and onshore application restrictions. This means in most cases you would need to leave Australia to apply for a work visa offshore.
-
Immigration may view seeking employment on a visitor visa negatively if it’s seen as your main intention, which could affect future visa applications.
So while a visit can be useful to understand the job market and attend interviews, it’s essential to stay within the visa rules.
2. Help from Your Paternal Uncle:
Having a paternal uncle in Sydney may offer personal support and possibly accommodation while you visit, but unfortunately it doesn’t provide any direct migration benefit unless he is an Australian citizen or permanent resident and you’re applying under very specific family pathways (which generally apply to parents, partners or children). If your uncle owns a business and is willing to sponsor you for a role that matches your experience and is on the skilled occupation lists, that could be explored, but it must meet all the visa and sponsorship requirements.
I hope that clarifies things. Let me know if you’d like help understanding any specific visa subclasses that may suit your profile.
Warm regards,
Mark -
