Introducing Myself

G’day, and welcome! I’m so glad you’ve found your way here. It truly means a lot, and I’m excited to share a bit about my story and how Oz Visa Forum came about.

Let me take you back to January 2006. My family and I—me, my wife, our wide-eyed 4-year-old son, and two incredibly unimpressed cats—were on the brink of a massive life change. We were leaving the UK behind, packing up everything we’d ever known, and heading for the sunny shores of Australia. We felt a mix of excitement and nerves as we took the leap, and, trust me, it wasn’t without its challenges.

How It All Began

When we started the migration process, we had no migration agent or shortcuts—just sheer determination and a whole lot of Googling. To make sense of it all, I began documenting our journey. What started as a personal diary turned into Getting Down Under, a resource created to help others make their Australian dream a reality.

I never imagined it would grow and still be around almost 20 years later. Fair to say, sharing our tips, advice, and lessons learned struck a chord with others navigating the same path.

From Visas to Job Opportunities

Early on, it became clear that finding Australian jobs offering visa sponsorship was a big challenge for many. That’s why we launched a dedicated job site, 457jobsaustralia.com. Over time, as the 457 Visa gave way to the TSS/482 Visa, we rebranded it as 482 Jobs.

Both sites thrived, and our mission expanded. It wasn’t just about telling our story anymore—it was about helping thousands of others write their own. From The Down Under Digest (our free newsletter) to a growing social media community, we’ve been overwhelmed by the connections we’ve built and the stories we’ve heard.

Enter Oz Visa Forum

Fast forward to January 2025, and here we are launching Oz Visa Forum! Before making the leap to create this new website, I ran a poll on the company’s LinkedIn page for 482 jobs to see if a forum would be of interest, and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive.

This is our latest venture—an online community where aspiring migrants, seasoned expats, and everyone in between can come together to share advice, ask questions, and support one another.

We’re no strangers to building communities, but this feels special. My hope is that it becomes a hub where you’ll find not only the clarity you need but also camaraderie—and maybe even a laugh or two as you navigate the migration journey.

At its heart, my mission has always been simple: to make the migration process a little less daunting and a whole lot more manageable. Whether you’re just starting to explore your options or knee-deep in the paperwork, we’re here to help you every step of the way.
