May Wrap-Up: Migration News, Webinars & a Quick Favor
Hey there 👋
And just like that, May is behind us and we’re rolling into June.
In Australia, June marks the beginning of winter and as I write this, it’s pouring outside.
Unlike my time back in the UK, rain here is often a welcome guest. It also means it’s a busy time in the garden. If only I could grow veggies as easily as weeds in winter, I’d be a very happy man! 😅
Here’s what’s been happening across the Oz Visa Forum community this past month:
📰 New: Australian Migration News Section
We’ve launched a new section of the site dedicated to Australian Migration News — a place to stay up to date with the latest news and stories relevant to people looking to move to Australia.Behind the scenes, we’re using clever search algorithms and a sprinkle of AI to scan the web and summarise key news stories. We’re also monitoring what gets shared to ensure everything stays relevant and useful.
We’d love for you to check it out, and if a story catches your eye, drop your thoughts in the comments!
🎙️ Webinars Are Coming Soon
Last month, we asked for your feedback on running community webinars — and the response was incredibly encouraging. Thank you to everyone who took the time to share your thoughts! We’ve spent the past few weeks setting up the platform and reaching out to guest speakers. It’s been a bit more challenging than expected to line everything up, but we’re on track to bring you some great sessions very soon.
All webinars will be recorded, so even if you can’t join live, you’ll be able to watch at a time that suits you.
📍 Is Your Country Location Correct?
You might have seen a quick note from me on our activity feed, but just in case…At the time of writing, around 10% of our members (238 people) have “Australia” set as their current location, even though many of you aren’t there yet. Turns out, Australia was accidentally set as the default country when registering. 😳 That’s been fixed now, but it means some profiles may still show the wrong country.
Why does this matter? Because our Member Directory lets you search for and connect with other members by country, occupation, and visa type — making it easier to connect with people on a similar journey. Getting your location right helps everyone feel more connected.
It only takes a few seconds to update your profile:

Thanks for being part of the journey.
