Hi Gift, and welcome to our community here at Oz Visa Forum 😊

As an accountant from Zimbabwe, you have a good chance of migrating to Australia through the General Skilled Migration (GSM) program or employer-sponsored visas. Here’s how you can proceed:

    1. Skills Assessment

Your occupation falls under ANZSCO 221111 – Accountant (General), which is on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL). You must get a skills assessment from CPA Australia, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ), or the Institute of Public Accountants (IPA). Visit their websites for assessment requirements:

    2. English Language Test

You need to take an English test such as IELTS, PTE, or TOEFL. A higher score can increase your points for skilled migration.

    3. Visa Pathways

    • Skilled Independent Visa (Subclass 189) – No sponsorship required, but you must score high on the points test.
    • Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190) – Requires state nomination, offering extra points.
    • Skilled Work Regional (Subclass 491) – Requires regional state nomination or family sponsorship.

    4. Expression of Interest (EOI) via SkillSelect

Once your skills are assessed and you meet the points requirement (usually 65+, but higher is better), you can submit an EOI in SkillSelect and wait for an invitation to apply.

    5. Employer-Sponsored Pathway

You can also apply for jobs with sponsorship, especially under the Subclass 482 (Temporary Skill Shortage visa). To find jobs with sponsorship, check:

As a final tip, a few accountants have already posted in our forums. You can view their posts here. You can also select the “Members’ link from this results page to view our other members with accountants as their occupation. I highly recommend following or connecting with these members as well

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions.

    Regards,
    Mark
