Multi-Skilled Professional Seeking Visa Sponsorship
Posted by Walter on January 26, 2025 at 12:18 pmHi,
Greetings to everyone. My name is Walter Anyanwu, I am a Nigerian. I am a multi-skilled professional, working as a Construction Project Manager, Mechanical Engineer, and Building Services Engineer, with over 12 years of experience. I was trained as an apprentice, gaining hands-on experience, which has provided me with invaluable practical skills. Throughout my career, I have successfully managed numerous projects, including a two-story school building project with 24 classrooms. I aim to work and settle in Australia, seeking visa sponsorship and would appreciate your guidance or referral.
Thank you.

Welcome Walter, it’s great to meet you virtually 🙂
Sounds like you have some good experience, is mechanical engineer the role you’d be leading with from a visa application perspective?
If so, how much experience do you have and is this an area you have a university degree in?
All the best
Mark

Dear Admin,
Thank you for your warm welcome! It’s great to meet you virtually as well.
I appreciate your interest in my background. I have over 12 years of experience in mechanical engineering roles, including building services engineering and construction project management. I pursued a bachelor’s degree in Accounting at Imo State University, Owerri, where I developed strong analytical and problem-solving skills through coursework in project management, financial analysis, and data analysis. This experience has been invaluable in managing budgets and financial planning for my projects.
Following my degree, I decided to focus on building my career in mechanical and building services engineering, which I have already acquired through apprenticeship. I have applied my skills and experiences to all my projects, which has significantly enhanced my project management and financial tasks.
I am currently exploring opportunities in mechanical engineering and am keen on professional development to adapt to international standards and practices. I am seeking employment and visa sponsorship, and I believe my skills and experience align with the requirements for this role.
Looking forward to your response.
Best regards,
Walter

Many thanks, Walter. Thank you for the detailed background.
Here are a number of options to consider:
1. Skilled Migration Pathway
You could consider the Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189) or the Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) as your occupation appears on the Medium and Long-Term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL).
Alternatively, employer-sponsored visas like the 482 Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa may be an option if they secure a job offer first.2. Skills Assessment
Since they work in mechanical engineering, you will need to complete a skills assessment through Engineers Australia. This is mandatory for most skilled visas. See here for more on this topic.
3. Expression of Interest (EOI) and Points Test
Once you have had your skills assessed. You can then submit an EOI via SkillSelect (see here for some tips); as part of this, you will also need to confirm your points score. You score points for things such as your age, qualifications, work experience, and English proficiency.
You can view a calculator here to help you calculate your points. 65 points or above is required to qualify for most independent visas.
I hope this helps. Please review the information I have linked, and feel free to let me know if you have further questions.
Regards
Mark

Hi Mark,
Thank you for the detailed information and guidance.
The Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189) and the Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) are both excellent options. It’s good to know that my occupation is on the Medium and Long-Term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL).
Employer-sponsored visas like the 482 Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa are also worth considering if I secure a job offer first.
I appreciate the links and resources you’ve shared. I will review them and proceed accordingly.
Best regards,
Walter
