Points “SPAM”
Hey everyone, I thought it might be fun to ‘gamify’ users’ contributions in our forums by introducing a points and achievements scheme for forum contributions, visits, profile completions, etc.
The points have been added, but as we have been live for almost two weeks, our users’ historical contributions haven’t been included.
The tool I used for our points enabled me to recalculate people’s points scores based on what you have done previously.
This seemed like a good idea, on the face of it.
However, I didn’t appreciate that running the tool would also trigger notifications (and emails saying you have notifications) in one hit! In fact, in about 60 seconds, our server sent out over 2000 emails.
Given that we have less than 700 members at the time of typing, some of you would have received multiple emails. 😶
I’m very sorry about that – I hate SPAM as much as the next person
Now that everyone is up to date, the flood of notifications should be over. You will only be notified if you do something on our website.
I’ll also use this slip-up to remind everyone that you can modify your notification settings at any time by clicking here.
I’ll also monitor who and what we award points for.

The points system is a cool and fun idea, I like it. What would be the possibility of getting this forum as an app on iPhone and android?

Thanks for your understanding, Luke! The App option is certainly on my radar if our community gets popular enough, though there is another overhead of maintaining and updating an app for mobile platforms that could become a bit of a pain.
I know in Android, at least (latest version), clicking the three dots when viewing in Chrome and selecting “Add to Home Screen” brings up an option to install the App, which is essentially a wrapper based on the Chrome app.
In the meantime, we’ll try and keep the website mobile-friendly so it’s easy to navigate (all those notifications 🙄) irrespective of the platform.

I never knew that! It is now added to my home screen. I can appreciate the difficulty of maintaining an app! Hopefully this forum will continue to grow, it’s really helping a lot of people by the look of it

I hope so, mate; as we get some more experienced members here (or members who have been with us a while and have already gone through some of the key stages), I’m hopeful the desire to help each other grow.

@mark , I got shocked by the email regarding points, however it’s a good initiative, I support it. The more some one is active and contributing to the forum the more points they get .

Hello @Delby, can you expand on what you mean by assess the points?
There is still some work that needs to be done in the background on this (I didn’t mean for everyone to start getting notifications), but if you can let me know what you are looking for, I can consider including it. 🙂
