Welcome to the community, Prabhath, and thank you for introducing yourself!

It’s great that you’ve already made the move to Cairns and are keen to get started in your engineering career here. With nearly six years of experience as an Electrical Engineer (ANZSCO 233311), you bring valuable skills to the table.

Since you’re on a 482 dependent visa, you’re allowed to work in Australia without employer sponsorship yourself, which gives you a bit more flexibility as you search.

Here are a few ways to improve your chances of landing a role:

    1. Start with Job Boards:

https://482jobs.com – this is one of our own websites and all jobs listed here offer visa sponsorship. Many employers are also happy to hire candidates already in Australia like yourself. For engineering jobs specifically, browse this category: https://482jobs.com/job-category/engineering/

    2. Check Major Job Platforms:

    Seek: https://seek.com.au

    Indeed: https://indeed.com.au

    3. Resume Optimisation: Ensure your resume matches Australian standards. Our article can help: Australia Resume Tips: Craft a Winning Resume in Australia

    4. Get Found by Recruiters: Upload your resume to our database—recruiters search this regularly: https://482jobs.com/candidates/submit-resume/

    5. LinkedIn Profile Tips: Make sure your LinkedIn is optimised for Australian recruiters. This guide offers excellent tips: 15 Expert Tips to Get Noticed by Australian Recruiters on LinkedIn

    6. Network Locally: Join engineering-related meetups or community groups in Cairns—local networking can sometimes lead to job opportunities faster than online applications.

Also, out of curiosity, what occupation does your partner hold under the 482 visa?

That might affect your future permanent residency (PR) options. If your partner’s occupation is on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL), there may be a clear pathway to PR through the 186 (Employer Nomination Scheme) or 189/190 skilled visa streams. I’d be happy to check that for you and offer some insights into the longer-term visa options for both of you.

Wishing you all the best as you settle into your new life in Australia 🙂 Feel free to post again if you’d like help with anything else..

    All the best
