  • Seeking Guidance on Sustainability Jobs in Australia/New Zealand

Posted by sahathullahal on March 15, 2025 at 6:08 pm

    Hello everyone,

I’m an experienced Sustainability & Compliance Executive in the hospitality industry, currently working in Sri Lanka. I have hands-on expertise in environmental management, compliance, ESG reporting, and renewable energy solutions within hospitality and corporate sustainability.

I’m keen to relocate to Australia or New Zealand and would love insights from professionals in the field:

✅What are the best job portals or networks to find sustainability roles? I found seek, indeed australia and 482jobs websites. But I applied for more than 400 jobs, but unfortunately, no replies yet.
✅So, how competitive is the job market for sustainability professionals?
✅Do I need any specific certifications to boost my chances?
✅Any tips on crafting a CV tailored for Australian/New Zealand employers?

I’d appreciate any advice, personal experiences, or connections that could help me navigate this journey. Looking forward to learning from you all!

Hi Sahathullah, and welcome to our community

It sounds like you have solod experience. Let me address your questions for you. 🙂

    1. Best Job Portals & Networks

You’ve already found some of the top job boards:

482Jobs (https://482jobs.com) – Specialises in visa-sponsored jobs in Australia. Keep checking for relevant roles.

Seek (https://seek.com.au) & Indeed (https://indeed.com.au) – Both are excellent, but many job postings attract hundreds of applicants.

LinkedIn Jobs (https://linkedin.com/jobs) – Great for networking. Follow Australian sustainability groups and recruiters.

Ethical Jobs (https://ethicaljobs.com.au) – Specialises in sustainability and environmental roles.

    2. Job Market Competitiveness

Sustainability roles are growing, but competition is high, especially for overseas applicants. Employers often prioritise candidates with local experience or work rights. Many sustainability jobs also require government or industry-specific knowledge (e.g., Australian environmental regulations).

    3. Certifications to Boost Chances

Having Australian-recognised certifications can improve your chances. Consider:

ISCA Accreditation (Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia – https://www.iscouncil.org)

Certifications in ESG & Sustainability Reporting (e.g., GRI, ISSP)

Environmental Auditor Accreditation (e.g., from EIANZ – https://www.eianz.org)

    4. Australia CV & Application Tips

Tailor your resume to match Australian employers’ expectations. Use this guide: https://482jobs.com/australia-resume-tips-craft-winning-resume/

Highlight local experience or transferable skills that align with Australian industry standards.

Add a “right to work in Australia” statement (if applicable) to make it clear.

Optimise your LinkedIn profile – Recruiters actively search for sustainability professionals. Here’s how: https://482jobs.com/15-expert-tips-to-get-noticed-by-australian-recruiters-on-linkedin/

Since you’re applying from overseas, targeting employers open to visa sponsorship is key. If you haven’t already, upload your resume on 482Jobs here: https://482jobs.com/candidates/submit-resume/ – Australian recruiters use this database to find skilled talent.

Let me know if you need help with specific visa options related to your occupation. Best of luck with your job search!

    All the best
