This is going to be very good news for the nurses in our community 🤗

In September 2024, Health Ministers approved a new streamlined registration standard for internationally qualified registered nurses (IQRNs), set to take effect by April 2025.

This process simplifies registration for eligible nurses from NMBA-approved jurisdictions, reducing the time and complexity of the application process. While the current process takes 9-12 months, the new system allows registration in 1-6 months, cutting down on costs and time for IQRNs.

The change aims to ease workforce pressures across Australia’s healthcare sectors while ensuring safety and quality. Nurses from countries like the UK, Ireland, the US, and Canada are eligible, provided they meet certain standards.

A review of the system will occur one year after implementation to assess its effectiveness.
