Welcome to the forums, Macauley! Thanks for introducing yourself. 😊

The Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa (subclass 482) allows Australian employers to sponsor skilled workers from overseas. To determine if you’re eligible for this visa, we first need to align your occupation with an ANZSCO code.

ANZSCO (Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations) is a system that classifies jobs based on skills and duties. Each occupation has a specific ANZSCO code, which helps determine whether it is eligible for a 482 visa and under which stream (Short-Term, Medium-Term, or Labour Agreement).

Could you please share details about your occupation, including your job title and main duties? This will allow us to check whether your occupation is on the relevant Skilled Occupation Lists and explore visa pathways for you.

    Looking forward to your response!

    Regards

    Mark

Am a sales manager, a dog breeder and a crop farmer.

In the office I am in charge of taking records of openings product for sale for that day the, assigning other works to delicate duties and also preparing the total sales account and record at EOD.

Also after work I go feed dogs, bath the once not clean, give supplements and vaccines to the ones that needs it and also help the female dogs to deliver new puppies, I care for the mother and pups till they are ready to be sold according to the breeding regulations.

At the farm I clear weeds, make paths for planting crops also planting the crops, regular pest fumigation, and also am the man power during harvest.

I multitask and I am opened to learn new skills and vocation.

Thanks for sharing details about your work, Macauley! Based on your roles, I’ll match them with relevant ANZSCO codes to check if they align with the Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa (subclass 482) requirements.

Here’s how your occupations align with ANZSCO codes:

    1. Sales Manager (ANZSCO 131112)

      • This role is listed on the Short-Term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL), meaning it can qualify for the Short-Term stream of the 482 visa, but only if an employer is willing to sponsor you.
      • Sponsorship for STSOL-listed occupations may have restrictions on permanent residency pathways.
    2. Dog Breeder

      • Unfortunately, this role does not have a direct ANZSCO classification for skilled migration purposes. It is unlikely to be eligible for a 482 visa.
    3. Crop Farmer (ANZSCO 121211 – Grain, Oilseed or Pasture Grower / 121299 – Mixed Crop Farmer)

      • Some farming occupations may be eligible under a Designated Area Migration Agreement (DAMA) if demand exists in certain regional areas.
      • However, standard 482 visa sponsorship for general farm work is rare unless in a managerial capacity.

    Next Steps:

    • If you’re aiming for the 482 visa, your Sales Manager role has the best chance, but you need an employer willing to sponsor you.
    • To increase your chances, I recommend searching for sponsored jobs on https://482jobs.com (all jobs here offer visa sponsorship). You can also check https://seek.com.au and https://indeed.com.au.
    • If you’re open to other pathways, regional visas like subclass 491 or 494 could be an option if you gain a formal qualification or a job offer in an eligible farming occupation.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

    Regards

    Mark

Thanks for sharing more details, Macauley!

The Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491) and the Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 494) are both regional visas that offer pathways to permanent residency. Here’s how they apply to you:

    1. Subclass 491 – Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) Visa

    • This is a points-tested visa that requires:
      • An occupation on the eligible skilled occupation lists
      • A skills assessment from the relevant assessing authority
      • A state or territory nomination OR sponsorship by an eligible relative in a regional area
      • Meeting the points test (minimum 65 points)

Your experience as a Sales Manager (ANZSCO 131112) is on the STSOL but is NOT on the 491 visa list, so it won’t be eligible.
Your Teaching experience might be relevant, but you would need formal qualifications and registration with AITSL (Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership) to apply under a teaching occupation.

    2. Subclass 494 – Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) Visa

    • This visa requires:
      • A job offer from a regional employer
      • An occupation on the 494 occupation list
      • A skills assessment
      • At least 3 years of work experience in the nominated occupation

Again, Sales Manager (ANZSCO 131112) is not on the 494 list, so it won’t be an option.

    Alternative Pathways

Since your current roles do not align well with the 491 or 494 visa, you could consider:

    1. Gaining a formal qualification in an eligible occupation (e.g. Teaching, Agriculture, or another in-demand skill).
    2. Exploring regional employer sponsorship in roles that do not require high qualifications, like hospitality, aged care, or farm management.
    3. Checking DAMA (Designated Area Migration Agreements), which allow concessions for certain skilled and semi-skilled jobs in specific regions.

Would you be interested in studying or gaining experience in an occupation with better migration prospects? Let me know, and I can help you further!

    All the best

That’s great to hear, Macauley! Since you’re open to the idea. Here a few suggestions.

Step 1: Choose an Occupation with Strong Migration Prospects

Since your current roles don’t directly qualify for the 491 or 494 visa, the best option is to gain skills or qualifications in an occupation that is in high demand. Some great options include:

Aged Care Worker / Disability Support Worker – Strong demand, employer-sponsored opportunities.

Chef / Cook – Many regional jobs offer sponsorship.

Trades (Electrician, Plumber, Welder, Carpenter, etc.) – Highly sought after.

Teaching (Early Childhood, Primary, or Secondary Education) – Requires formal qualifications.

Would you be open to training in one of these fields?

Step 2: Study or Gain Experience in Australia or Overseas

You can study in Australia through a student visa (subclass 500), then transition to a work visa after completing your course.

Alternatively, you can gain experience in your home country and apply for a skills assessment later.

Step 3: Job Search for Employer Sponsorship

Once you have skills in an in-demand occupation, you can look for jobs that offer visa sponsorship. The best place to start is:

https://482jobs.com – All jobs here offer sponsorship.

https://seek.com.au – Search for “visa sponsorship” roles.

    https://indeed.com.au – Good for industry-specific roles.

Step 4: Explore the Right Visa Pathway

If you get an employer sponsor, you can apply for a 482 visa or 494 visa.

If you study in Australia, you can apply for a Graduate visa (subclass 485) and later move to a permanent skilled visa.

If you qualify for the 491 visa, you can apply for state nomination after meeting requirements.

I hope that gives you some food for though. Let me know if you’d like me to expand on any of these points.

    Regards

Hi Macauley. I’m still here though remember I’m in Western Australia so given the time differences between Nigeria and Australia.. a man’s got to sleep sometimes 😀

Your experience in caring for elderly and disabled people is very valuable. Aged Care Workers and Disability Support Workers are in high demand in Australia, and many employers offer visa sponsorship.

Step 1: Understand the Job Requirements

The roles of Aged Care Worker (ANZSCO 423111) and Disability Support Worker (ANZSCO 423112) involve tasks like:

    • Assisting elderly or disabled individuals with daily activities (bathing, dressing, meal preparation).
    • Providing emotional support and companionship.
    • Helping with mobility and medication reminders.
    • Maintaining a clean and safe living environment.

Most employers require some form of training such as a Certificate III or IV in Individual Support (Aged Care or Disability).

However, some regional employers sponsor workers without formal training if they have hands-on experience like you do!

Step 2: Apply for Aged Care & Disability Support Jobs with Visa Sponsorship

The best way to find a sponsored job is to apply directly to employers looking for overseas workers. Start with these websites:

https://482jobs.com – All jobs here offer visa sponsorship.

https://seek.com.au – Search for “Aged Care Worker visa sponsorship” or “Disability Support Worker visa sponsorship.”

https://indeed.com.au – Another good job board for sponsorship opportunities.

Step 3: Improve Your Chances with a Good Resume

Australian employers prefer resumes in a specific format. To make sure yours stands out, check our resume guide here:

    https://482jobs.com/australia-resume-tips-craft-winning-resume/

You can also upload your resume to https://482jobs.com/candidates/submit-resume/ so recruiters looking for overseas candidates can find you.

Step 4: Consider a Short Training Course

This one is quite important. If you want to increase your chances, you can complete an online Certificate III in Individual Support (Aged Care or Disability). Some employers may even assist with training if they hire you though if you have some form of qualification related to the role it will help you significantly.

Step 5: Employer Sponsorship & Visa Application

Once you secure a job offer, the employer will sponsor you for a Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa (subclass 482) or a Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 494) if the job is in a regional area.

    I hope this helps.
