Hi Theresa, thanks for your post and sorry to hear how tough things are feeling right now.😨
As you’re 46, you’re right that most general skilled migration visas (like subclass 189, 190) are not an option due to the age limit. But employer sponsorship is still possible, especially for occupations like Chef, which is currently on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) under ANZSCO 351311. This means you’re eligible for the Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa (subclass 482) and potentially permanent residency through the Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186).
Here’s how to start your job search for sponsored roles:
1. Start with 482jobs.com – This is one of our websites, and every job listed offers visa sponsorship. It’s a great place to begin: https://482jobs.com
2. Seek – Australia’s largest job board: https://seek.com.au
3. Indeed – Also widely used by employers: https://indeed.com.au
Given both Seek and Indeed contain a mix of non sponsored and sponsored jobs, be sure to use terms such as sponsorship
To help give you some further exposure here on Australia, I’d recommend uploading your resume to 482jobs.com here: https://482jobs.com/candidates/submit-resume/
Each month, Australian recruiters search the database for overseas candidates open to sponsorship.

Since you’re a Chef by trade, I suggest focusing first on hospitality recruitment agencies in Perth that commonly sponsor chefs. I can look into specific agencies if you’d like (I live in WA) so just let me know.
And while the Partner visa (subclass 820/801) is a great long-term option (I replied to your other post just now) it’s good that you’re also exploring sponsorship as a way to get work rights sooner. 👍🏻🙂
I hope this helps you get started. Let me know if you’d like help with anything else.
Warm regards,
Mark

Hi Mark thank you so much for your reply. I would be very grateful for contact for wa recruitment agencies please. Also with the temporary skilled shortage visa do l I need a job offer first. Is their a way to get this without a job offer first .
Many thanks again for your help

Hi Theresa,
Thanks for your follow-up. Yes, to apply for the Skills in Demand (SID) visa (subclass 482), you must first secure a job offer from an Australian employer who is willing to sponsor you.
This visa requires employer sponsorship; you cannot apply without a sponsoring employer unfortunately. 😓
As a Chef, your occupation is on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL), making you eligible for the SID 482 visa.
To assist you in finding a sponsoring employer in Perth, here are some reputable hospitality recruitment agencies:

Hi Mark and thank you again for your help. I would love any help with resume please and have contacted the agency’s you recommended and searching for jobs . I am also half way through a TEFL course and hoping that could be another pass way over ( your opion on that would be greatly recived) . Bit more about my situation is my sister is married to an Australian and they live in the uk, I am very close to all his family and was seeing if their is anyway that could help me in anyway. We looked at the partner visa but would take a while to secure all funds. I’m not even sure if we would end up staying in austrlian but I just want to find anyway possible, if possible to go out their for 6 months to a year and work whilst there to see what plans we make. Thank you again your advise has been very helpful.
-
Hi Theresa, thanks for the update – and well done for taking action with the agencies and pursuing your TEFL course. That sort of drive can make a big difference. 😊
To your points:
-
Resume Support – Since you’ve uploaded your resume already, feel free to share the link here and I’m happy to review it (only I will be able to view as I’m an administrator on 482jobs with the correct viewing permissions). Alternatively, we also offer a 1:1 resume review through our colleague Claire, who will review and redraft your resume if you would prefer more of a thorough review/update. Details here for more info. https://482jobs.com/product/profession-resume-review-service/
-
TEFL Course – Once completed, a TEFL could certainly open some extra doors, especially if you gain experience or already hold a degree. It won’t guarantee visa eligibility on its own, but some sponsored teaching roles do appear, especially in regional areas.
-
Temporary Stay – If you’re exploring the idea of coming for 6–12 months without a firm plan to settle, a Visitor visa (subclass 600) might be worth considering. While it doesn’t allow work, it can let you stay with your partner and potentially attend job interviews face to face. Just something to keep in mind while you explore other options.
-
Family Connections – Sadly, being close to your brother-in-law’s Australian family doesn’t offer a direct visa route. But that support network could help with things like accommodation, references, or introductions to employers while you’re job hunting.
Let’s keep pushing on the Chef angle and finish your TEFL – both could lead to real opportunities. If you need any further help, please feel free to reach out.
You’re doing all the right things, and it’s great to be able to support you on this journey.
Warm regards,
Mark482jobs.com

Hi Theresa, I snipped your link as everyone would be able to access it and given your resume contains your personal details I thought it would be better to take that offline 🙂 Separately, i’ve sent you a private message where so I’ll be able to review and share more detail with you.
I have seen Australia Chef Migration in passing though I have no direct experience working with them.
For me l think it’s a case of understanding what their value proposition is. If they are a specialise recruiter then by all means take a look but if they want to charge you fees then I’d be a little more cautious.
I’ll send you more info on your resume once I’ve had a look 👍🏻

Thank you marl for the resume update. Do you think it will be denificial to use the lady you recommended to re do the whole resume. I want the best chance possibel
-
I’ll let you make that decision Theresa. Claire works for 482jobs.com which is also a website I own so if you use Claire. I benefit. I probably can’t advise you with any degree of impartiality in that regard. 🙂
What I would say is with Resumes, it’s often best to not overthink it. Your current resume was already pretty good. Start with a structure aligned with my feedback and use that as a new starting point. If you continue to not get much luck then you could consider other options at that stage.
Hope this helps

Hi Mark just after another bit of advice please. Would it be beneficial d
To do the australia skill set exam or is this something o do after finding employment
Many thanks
-
Hi Theresa,
Great question! In most cases, it’s best to complete your skills assessment first, especially if you’re planning to apply for a skilled visa like the subclass 482 (Temporary Skill Shortage) or subclass 186 (Employer Nomination Scheme).
Here’s why:
1. Australian employers often want to know you’re eligible for a visa before offering sponsorship. A positive skills assessment proves your qualifications meet Australian standards.
2. For most skilled visas, a valid skills assessment is mandatory before you can apply.
3. If you wait until after finding a job, the process can delay your application and risk missing an opportunity.
I hope this helps! 🙂.
Regards
Mark
