Hi Jake, thanks for your post and welcome to our community 🤗
With your background there are a few potential pathways to Australian residency, especially via employer sponsorship or skilled migration.
1. Employer Sponsored Visas Based on your ICT and cybersecurity experience, these ANZSCO codes are worth exploring:
261112 Systems Analyst
262112 ICT Security Specialist
263111 Computer Network and Systems Engineer
The ICT Security Specialist (ANZSCO 262112) is on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL), which makes you eligible for both temporary and permanent visa options.
Visa options:
Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) Visa – Subclass 482: A popular pathway for sponsored employment. This visa can lead to permanent residency after 2–3 years depending on the stream.
Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) – Subclass 186: Direct PR option if you’re nominated by an employer and meet eligibility.
Skilled Independent (subclass 189) or Skilled Nominated (subclass 190): Based on a points test. You may be eligible if your occupation is on the MLTSSL and you pass a skills assessment.
2. Where to Find Sponsored Jobs To find jobs that offer sponsorship:
1. https://482jobs.com – This is one of our own websites, and all jobs listed here offer Australian visa sponsorship. The ICT job category may be suitable for you: https://482jobs.com/job-category/information-communications-technology/
2. https://seek.com.au
3. https://indeed.com.au
The latter two websites list both sponsored and none sponsored roles so some filtering will be required (add sponsorship as part of your search criteria).
Next Steps
Consider doing a skills assessment through ACS (Australian Computer Society): https://www.acs.org.au
Start applying for jobs that offer sponsorship, and upload your resume to https://482jobs.com/candidates/submit-resume/ to get noticed by recruiters.
You might also benefit from formatting your resume and LinkedIn profile to Australian standards. Here’s a helpful article: https://482jobs.com/australia-resume-tips-craft-winning-resume/
Finally. I recommend reviewing some of the posts by our community member @tommy as he is also from the US and works in a similar industry. He’s also recently received an invitation to apply so is a little way ahead of you from a process perspective so his experiences might be useful. You can check out some of his posts here.
That’s a lot of info but I hope this gives you a clear starting point, Jake! 🙂
Let me know if you’d like help with anything else.
Regards
Mark
