    G’day Adeola!

Well done on your positive skills assessment with VETASSESS — that’s a major milestone!

Here’s what usually comes next, depending on your goal:

    1. Check Your Occupation’s Visa Options
Look up your occupation to see if it appears on the MLTSSL (Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List), STSOL (Short-term Skilled Occupation List), ROL (Regional Occupation List) or under a DAMA (Designated Area Migration Agreement).
This determines which skilled visa pathways are open to you — for example:

    • Subclass 189 (points-tested permanent visa – for MLTSSL occupations)

    • Subclass 190 (state-nominated permanent visa)

    • Subclass 491 (regional state-nominated provisional visa)

    • Subclass 482 (temporary employer-sponsored visa)

Let me know your exact occupation and I’ll confirm which list it’s on and the visa options.

    1. Gather Documents & Improve Points (for points-tested visas like 189, 190, 491)
Start gathering documents for your Expression of Interest (EOI) through SkillSelect.
You can also improve your points by:

    • Boosting your English test score (IELTS, PTE, etc)

    • Gaining extra work experience

    • Completing NAATI or professional year (if eligible)

    1. State Nomination or Job Sponsorship
      Depending on your occupation:

    • If going for a 190 or 491 visa, check if any states are currently nominating your occupation.

    • If aiming for employer sponsorship (Subclass 482 or 186), now’s the time to look for employers who can sponsor you.

You can start here: https://482jobs.com (Share already I know). Every job on this site offers Australia Visa sponsorship.

Hope this helps, and congrats again on the positive assessment!

    All the best

Hi Mark. Thank you for the good wishes. The occupation is for PRODUCTION MANAGER [MANUFACTURING]. Can you suggest a website where I can take either free or paid classes for PTE?

Hi Adeola, thanks for the update.

For PTE preparation, here are some good options:

    Free PTE Practice:

Paid PTE Courses (no affiliation but have been around for a while with favorable reviews)

    • E2Language: Excellent structured programs with live classes and tutorials — very popular with Aussie visa applicants.
    • PTE Academy: https://pteacademicexam.com — offers paid coaching and practice tests.

Getting a high PTE score can significantly improve your points for regional visas, so investing time here is definately worth it.

Wishing you every success on your journey to Australia and please feel free to let me know if you have any further questions. 🙂

    Regards

Since Production Manager (Manufacturing), ANZSCO 133512 – is on the STSOL (Short-term Skilled Occupation List) and CSOL (Consolidated Sponsored Occupation List), here’s what that means for your visa options:

    1. Points-Tested Visas:

Subclass 190 (Skilled Nominated Visa): You may be eligible if a state or territory nominates your occupation. This is a permanent visa.

Subclass 491 (Skilled Work Regional Visa): Also requires state nomination, but for regional areas. This is a 5-year provisional visa with a pathway to permanent residency.

    2. Employer-Sponsored Visas:

Subclass 482 (Temporary Skill Shortage – Short-Term Stream): You can be sponsored by an approved Australian employer. This visa is valid for up to 4 years for STSOL occupations with an international trade agreement.

Subclass 186 (Employer Nomination Scheme): Not available under the Direct Entry stream for STSOL occupations, but could be an option if you transition from a 482 visa (under the Temporary Residence Transition stream).

    I hope this helps 🙂

    Regards

Hi Aseola, I assume you are referring to this news?

As I understand it, the PTE score requirements have been increased a couple of pints across the board to better align what is considered competent English with the likes of IELTS and other English test providers.

If you have already taken your PTE test then you won’t be impacted by these new score thresholds.

    Old vs New PTE Requirements:

    Functional English – Old: 30 | New: 32

Vocational English – Old: 36 | New: 36 (no change)

    Competent English – Old: 50 | New: 51

    Proficient English – Old: 65 | New: 66

    Superior English – Old: 79 | New: 84

    I hope this helps

    Regards

    Mark
