Hi Mary and welcome to our community! 🙋‍♂️

Thanks for reaching out and sharing your background. With your experience and a year in NGO finance, you have a solid foundation for exploring skilled migration pathways to Australia. Let’s go through your options.

    Identifying Suitable Occupations

Based on your experience, these occupations might suit your profile:

    • Finance Manager (ANZSCO 132211)

    • Internal Auditor (ANZSCO 221214)

    • Management Accountant (ANZSCO 221112)

All three are currently on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL), which opens up both temporary and permanent visa options.

    Visa Pathways

Given your preference for employer sponsorship, here are the main options:

    • Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) Visa (Subclass 482) – Allows employers to sponsor you to work in Australia. MLTSSL occupations are eligible for a 4-year visa with a pathway to permanent residency.

    • Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) Visa (Subclass 186) – A permanent visa if you’re nominated by an Australian employer.

You might also explore state-nominated skilled migration pathways:

    • Skilled Independent Visa (Subclass 189) – Points-tested permanent visa with no employer sponsorship required.

    • Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190) – Requires nomination by a state or territory government.

    Skill Assessment

You’ll need a positive skills assessment for any of the skilled visas. Based on your occupation, the assessing bodies would likely be VETASSESS or one of the accounting bodies in Australia.

June 2, 2025 at 4:50 pm in reply to: Migrate to Australia in the construction field?

    Hi Shahin,

Thanks for reaching out, and welcome to our community!

With your qualifications and experience in the construction field, there are promising pathways to migrate to Australia. Based on your background as a Construction Manager or Civil Engineer, here are some tailored options.

    1. Construction Project Manager (ANZSCO 133111)

This role involves planning, directing, and coordinating construction projects.

    Visa Options:

    • Subclass 189 – Skilled Independent Visa (points-tested, no sponsorship required)

    • Subclass 190 – Skilled Nominated Visa (requires state nomination)

    • Subclass 491 – Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) Visa (state or family-sponsored)

    • Subclass 186 – Employer Nomination Scheme Visa (direct entry or transition stream)

    • Subclass 494 – Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) Visa

    • Subclass 482 – Temporary Skill Shortage Visa (medium-term stream)

    Skills Assessment:

Conducted by VETASSESS. You’ll need an Australian-equivalent bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Construction Project Management, Building Technology, Civil Engineering) and at least one year of post-qualification experience within the last five years.

    2. Civil Engineer (ANZSCO 233211)

This role focuses on designing and overseeing infrastructure projects like bridges, roads, and water systems.

    Visa Options:

    • Subclass 189 – Skilled Independent Visa

    • Subclass 190 – Skilled Nominated Visa

    • Subclass 491 – Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) Visa

    • Subclass 186 – Employer Nomination Scheme Visa

    • Subclass 494 – Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) Visa

    • Subclass 482 – Temporary Skill Shortage Visa (medium-term stream)

    Skills Assessment:

Handled by Engineers Australia. If your degree is accredited (e.g., under the Washington Accord), the process is straightforward. Otherwise, you’ll need to submit a Competency Demonstration Report (CDR) showcasing your engineering experience and competencies.

    Next Steps:

    1. Determine Your ANZSCO Code: Identify whether your experience aligns more with Construction Project Manager (133111) or Civil Engineer (233211).

    2. Skills Assessment: Initiate the skills assessment process with the relevant authority (VETASSESS or Engineers Australia).

    3. Points Calculation: Assess your points for the General Skilled Migration program. A minimum of 65 points is typically required.

    4. Explore Job Opportunities: Consider seeking employment opportunities that offer visa sponsorship.

    Hi Khen,

Thanks for your message, and great job on preparing your CV! I’m glad to hear you followed the advice.

To answer your question, there’s no payment required be included in our resume database. You can pay to feature your resume which may give you more exposure but this isn’t necessary to begin with.

Once you upload your resume here: https://482jobs.com/candidates/submit-resume/ it becomes visible to Australian employers and recruiters who are actively searching for candidates needing visa sponsorship.

That said, it’s a bit of a numbers game. There’s no fixed timeline—it depends on whether recruiters are currently looking for chefs with your specific skills and experience, and how your resume compares to others in our database. The stronger and more relevant your experience, the better your chances.

Keep improving your resume, keep applying for roles (via https://482jobs.com seek.com.au and indeed.com.au), and don’t lose hope—many people land roles this way.

All the best, and feel free to reach out anytime.

    Warm regards,

Hi there Ahadum, please don’t share personal details on our forums as this may attract scammers. 😣

The link I shared previously enables you to book a paid consultation with an agent

    The way this process works.

    1. Pay for the initial assessment service through the link here (check the value then proceeded to checkout)
    2. Following payment, you will be emailed a link to schedule a meeting through the migration agents online calendar so you can find a time that suits you both.
    3. The migration agent will issue you a google meet video invitation for the video call

If you would rather search for other agents. You can do so via the Migration Agent Authority website here.

Dealing with MARA registered agents is important as this ensures the person you are dealing with is qualified to the correct standards.

    I hope this helps

    All the best

Hiya Christel, thanks heaps for providing some input here. Hopefully Jenny response and provides some clarity.

What I’d like to flag however is as of 22 December 2022, the Department of Home Affairs appears to now accepts Limited or Provisional registration from the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) for all AHPRA-regulated occupations, including Occupational Therapists, when applying for the subclass 186 visa.

This means that full (general) registration is no longer a mandatory requirement at the time of visa application.

I’d get the migration agent who flagged this to double check for the latest data. A couple of more official sources of this info (from legal types and other migration agents) here and here.

I hope this helps both of you.

    Cheers
