Hi @liza Firstly, thank you so much for your honest feedback and for taking the time to share your experience. It’s truly appreciated.

You’ve raised some very valid points.

We agree that many candidates, especially those who’ve been in the process for years like yourself, already have a deep understanding of the basic requirements.

We also completely understand your frustration with the point system, especially how quickly age-related changes can impact eligibility. 😬

Your suggestion to include Australian employers as guest speakers in our webinars is an excellent one, and we’ll certainly take it into serious consideration as we shape the content. We understand the value of hearing directly from sponsors and decision-makers who can provide real-world insight into what they’re looking for in overseas candidates.

That said, we also want to ensure the webinars are accessible and informative for all levels of experience. Some of our members are just beginning their journey, so we’ll aim to cover a mix of foundational guidance as well as more advanced topics like DAMA sponsorships and job search strategies in regional areas.

We’re committed to making our webinars genuinely helpful, not just repeating information easily found elsewhere, and your feedback will help us do just that.

Thanks again for your input, Liza. Looking forward to seeing you at one of the upcoming sessions.

    Warm regards,

    Mark

May 4, 2025 at 10:12 pm in reply to: Any Quantity surveyor Visa Sponsorship opportunities in Australia?

Thanks for your question, Clara and welcome to our community 🙂

Quantity Surveyor is a recognised skilled occupation in Australia, listed under ANZSCO code 233213, and is currently on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL).

This means you’re potentially eligible for several skilled visa options, including:

    • Subclass 482 (Temporary Skill Shortage visa) with employer sponsorship
    • Subclass 186 (Employer Nomination Scheme)
    • Subclass 189, 190, or 491 (points-tested skilled visas) if you meet other eligibility criteria

However, keep in mind that employers and assessing authorities typically expect a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Quantity Surveying.

A National Diploma alone might not meet the requirements, but you may still qualify if you have strong relevant experience. Here’s what to consider:

    1. Skills Assessment with AIQS

The Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (AIQS) assesses this occupation. If your diploma is from a recognised institution and you have at least 3+ years of work experience, AIQS may still provide a positive skills assessment. Full details: https://www.aiqs.com.au

    Hi Liza,

Thanks for sharing your situation, it’s clear you’ve worked very hard, and I understand how disheartening the wait can be. Can I ask, how many points you were at when you submitted your EOI?

    1. ICT Occupations Eligible Under NT DAMA III

The Northern Territory Designated Area Migration Agreement (NT DAMA III), effective from 19 March 2025, includes several ICT occupations that align with your background:

    ICT Support Engineer (ANZSCO 263212)

ICT Systems Test Engineer (ANZSCO 263213)

ICT Support and Test Engineers nec (ANZSCO 263299)

These occupations are eligible for employer sponsorship under the Subclass 186 visa (labour agreement stream) through the NT DAMA. You can find the complete list here:

    2. Finding Employers in Darwin

There is no public list of employers approved under the NT DAMA, so you’ll need to approach potential sponsors directly. Some useful places to start:

Also, use LinkedIn to search for ICT companies based in Darwin. Contact HR departments and hiring managers to ask about DAMA sponsorship opportunities.

    4. Upcoming Webinar

We’ll notify all members as soon as the schedule is confirmed. ☺️

Beyond the 482 Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa, there are other potential pathways for skilled workers like you. As a Boilermaker (ANZSCO 322311), which is currently on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL), you may be eligible for permanent visa options such as:

If you can secure a state or regional nomination. These visas are points-tested and do not require employer sponsorship, although you will need a valid skills assessment and meet the points threshold.

You can learn more and check eligibility on the official Department of Home Affairs website: https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/getting-a-visa/visa-listing

Also consider uploading your resume to 482jobs here: https://482jobs.com/candidates/submit-resume/ – Australian employers regularly browse our database to find skilled candidates.

This occupation is currently listed on both the Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL) and on several DAMA (Designated Area Migration Agreement) occupation lists.

    2. Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) Subclass 494 Visa – if sponsored in a regional area.

    3. Designated Area Migration Agreements (DAMA) – offers concessions and access to pathways in specific regions.

May 3, 2025 at 9:16 am in reply to: Sponshorship for a job opportunity

    Hi Forough,

Thanks for your reply, and no worries at all—it’s great to hear from you.

You’ve got very relevant experience, and yes, there are still options for employer sponsorship despite the challenges. Based on what you have shared so far, the most suitable ANZSCO code appears to be 234413 – Hydrogeologist, which is currently on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL).

This means you’re eligible for the Subclass 482 Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa, as well as other long-term visa pathways.

To improve your chances of finding a sponsoring employer, I strongly recommend the following:

    1. Check out 482jobs.com – This is one of our own websites, and every job listed includes visa sponsorship. Here’s the general link: https://482jobs.com

Your field may fit well under: https://482jobs.com/job-category/engineering/

    2. Broaden your search with:

    Seek: https://seek.com.au

    Indeed: https://indeed.com.au

    3. Upload your resume to our database at https://482jobs.com/candidates/submit-resume/ – Recruiters search here monthly for skilled candidates needing sponsorship.

    4. Make sure your LinkedIn and resume are optimised for the Australian job market. This article might help: https://482jobs.com/15-expert-tips-to-get-noticed-by-australian-recruiters-on-linkedin

    And for resumes: https://482jobs.com/australia-resume-tips-craft-winning-resume/

If you’re still considering a PhD with a scholarship, that’s also a valid pathway, as many Australian universities can offer visas for PhD students.

However, if your goal is to work in Australia, focusing on employer sponsorship remains the most direct route or the skills elect EOI/PR path such as the 189 visa could be a solid option (though you suggest this might not be possible for you 🤔)

Either way, I hope you found this information helpful. Please feel free to ask if you’d like to explore the EOI path or anything else.

    Warm regards,

    Mark

May 3, 2025 at 9:05 am in reply to: Seeking hairdresser job in Australia

    Thanks for the update, Riyad!

Since you’re from Jordan and have 20 years of hairdressing experience, that’s a great foundation. Many Australian employers value extensive experience, especially if you can demonstrate good skills with cutting, colouring, styling, and customer service.

    To improve your chances:

Get your skills formally recognised. As a hairdresser, you’ll need to pass a skills assessment through Trades Recognition Australia (TRA).

You’ll likely apply through the Offshore Skills Assessment Pathway. This helps show Australian employers and immigration authorities that your skills meet local standards. Learn more here.

Let me know if you have any questions about the TRA assessment or anything else.

Current hairdresser jobs in Australia on our own platform can also be viewed here.

Happy to support where I can.
