AdministratorMarch 24, 2025 at 7:40 am in reply to: Is A Skills Assessment and IELTS needed for 482 Visa?Hi Lyndon, you’re very welcome and I’m great to hear you’re feeling more confident moving forward! 🙂
Based on your background as a Power Station Operator/Maintainer and Diesel Fitter/Mechanic, I’d suggest there are a couple of relevant ANZSCO occupations you might fall under (see occupations descriptions I’ve linked to the codes).
1. Diesel Motor Mechanic – ANZSCO 321212
This is a well-recognised trade occupation in Australia.
It is listed on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL), which means it’s eligible for the 482 visa and also leads to permanent pathways later.
A skills assessment is required for this occupation, usually done through TRA (Trades Recognition Australia). You can check their process at: https://www.tradesrecognitionaustralia.gov.au
2. Power Generation Plant Operator – ANZSCO 399213
This is a more specialised role.
It is currently not listed on any skilled occupation lists (MLTSSL, STSOL, or ROL), so unfortunately, it’s not eligible for a 482 visa.
However, if your role involves a lot of hands-on mechanical work on diesel engines, it’s possible you could qualify as a Diesel Motor Mechanic, which gives you a solid visa pathway.
If your day-to-day work involves maintaining and repairing diesel engines used in power generation, I recommend positioning yourself under Diesel Motor Mechanic (321212) for the 482 visa.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
Cheers,
Mark

Hi Zaka, welcome and thanks for your post! 🙂
As an Electrical Technician, your occupation may align with ANZSCO 342313, which is currently on the Regional Occupation List (ROL).
This means you may be eligible for certain skilled visas, including:
- Subclass 482 – Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa (with regional employer sponsorship)
- Subclass 494 – Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) visa
- Subclass 191 – Permanent Residence (Skilled Regional), after holding a 494 visa for 3 years
To pursue visa sponsorship, here’s how you can get started:
1. Search for jobs that offer sponsorship – Try these job boards:
https://482jobs.com (our own site – all jobs listed here offer visa sponsorship)
For seek and indeed and terms such as “sponsorship” to your search criteria to filter your job results.
2. Format your resume for the Australian market – Check out our guide here:
https://482jobs.com/australia-resume-tips-craft-winning-resume/
3. Upload your resume to https://482jobs.com/candidates/submit-resume/ so Australian employers and recruiters can find you directly.
4. Consider skills assessment – Most skilled visas will require a positive skills assessment. For Electrical Technicians, this is usually conducted by Trades Recognition Australia (TRA): https://www.tradesrecognitionaustralia.gov.au/
I hope this gives you a clear path forward. Feel free to post any other questions or if you need help with anything else!
Regards
Mark

Hi Ritesh, welcome to our community and thank you for sharing your background!
To be eligible for employer sponsorship in Australia under the Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa – subclass 482, your occupation must appear on one of Australia’s skilled occupation lists:
- MLTSSL = Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List
- STSOL = Short-term Skilled Occupation List
- ROL = Regional Occupation List
From your experience, here are some notes:
1. Clerical Work – Most general clerical roles are not eligible for employer-sponsored visas unless they fall under more specialised occupations (like Office Manager – ANZSCO 512111), which are on the STSOL.
2. Driver (Light Vehicle or Delivery Driver) – Unfortunately, roles such as Light Truck Driver (ANZSCO 733111) or Chauffeur (ANZSCO 731111) are not currently eligible for standard 482 visa sponsorship, unless through a DAMA (Designated Area Migration Agreement) in certain regional areas.

AdministratorMarch 24, 2025 at 7:23 am in reply to: Is A Skills Assessment and IELTS needed for 482 Visa?Hi Lyndon, welcome to the community and thanks for your question! 🙂
If you’re applying for a Temporary Skill Shortage (subclass 482) visa, whether you need a skills assessment and English test (like IELTS) depends on your occupation and citizenship. Here’s a simple breakdown:
1. Skills Assessment
Not all 482 visa applicants need a skills assessment.
You’ll only need one if your occupation and nationality require it as listed in legislative instruments by the Department of Home Affairs.
For example, certain trade occupations (like electricians, plumbers, etc.) typically do require a formal skills assessment regardless of your nationality.
Let me know your occupation and I can check for you whether a skills assessment is needed.
2. English Language (IELTS or equivalent)
As a citizen of Papua New Guinea, you are not considered exempt from the English requirement.
You will need to show English proficiency unless you’ve studied for 5 years in an English-speaking institution, which may qualify for an exemption.
The typical requirement is IELTS overall band of 5.0 with no score below 4.5, or an equivalent score in other approved tests (like PTE, TOEFL, etc.).
Let me know your occupation as it will help us confirm:
- Whether it’s eligible for the 482 visa
- If a skills assessment is needed
- Any other specific requirements
I hope this gives you a good starting point. Feel free to share more and I’ll help you work through it.
Cheers,
Mark

Hello Raneem,
The occupation ‘Data Analyst’ has been assigned the ANZSCO (Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations) code 224114.
To be eligible for the TSS visa, your occupation must be listed on one of the skilled occupation lists: the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL), the Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL), or the Regional Occupation List (ROL).
However, as of now, ‘Data Analyst’ (ANZSCO 224114) is not included on these lists, which may affect eligibility for the TSS visa.
Regarding work experience, the TSS visa typically requires applicants to have at least two years of relevant work experience in their nominated occupation. However, specific requirements can vary depending on the employer and the position.
Given that ‘Data Analyst’ is not currently on the relevant skilled occupation lists, you might consider exploring other visa options or related occupations that are listed.
For example, ‘ICT Business Analyst’ (ANZSCO 261111) is on the MLTSSL and could be a potential alternative, depending on your specific skills and duties.
I hope this information helps. If you have further questions, feel free to ask.
Regards, Mark

AdministratorMarch 23, 2025 at 6:05 pm in reply to: visa 482 for families of the primary visa holderHi Novy, welcome to our community and thanks for the great question!
If you’re sponsored on a Subclass 482 Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa, you can include your family members (called “dependants”) in your application. This includes:
Your spouse or de facto partner
Your dependent children (usually under 18, or over 18 if financially dependent)
However, the company does not have to formally sponsor your family. As long as they agree to support your visa, you can include dependants in your application, or they can apply later as subsequent entrants.
Here’s how it works:
Most employers do support family members, especially for Medium-term stream roles, but some only cover costs for the primary applicant.
Your family’s visa is processed at the same time if lodged together.
If applying later, processing times are generally similar, but can vary. You can check current 482 processing times here: https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/getting-a-visa/visa-processing-times/global-visa-processing-times
So in short:
Yes, you can include family 🙂
Employer support is common but not guaranteed (check directly with them).
Lodging together means your family’s visa will be processed at the same time
Hope that clears things up, Novy! If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.
Warm regards, Mark

AdministratorMarch 23, 2025 at 8:18 am in reply to: Getting a job in Australia related to pest controlWelcome to our forums Abdul. 👋🏻
Pest control is a valuable service in Australia, but the occupation of Pest Controller (ANZSCO 841912) isn’t currently listed on the main skilled occupation lists used for general skilled migration visas like the 189 or 190.
That said, there may still be a pathway if an Australian pest control company is willing to sponsor you under an employer-sponsored visa, such as the 482 Temporary Skill Shortage visa.
These kinds of opportunities can be harder to come by unless the business operates in a regional area or under a Labour Agreement.
Here are a few steps you could take:
Focus your search on regional parts of Australia, where skill shortages are more common and employers are sometimes open to sponsorship. You can try searching for terms like:
“pest control jobs Wagga Wagga”
“pest control jobs Mildura”
“pest control jobs Rockhampton”
“pest control jobs Geraldton”
“pest control jobs Launceston”
These are all examples of regional cities where there might be opportunities.
Use job boards that list sponsorship opportunities, such as:
https://www.482jobs.com – This is our own website and its a dedicated site for jobs in Australia that offer 482 visa sponsorship
https://www.seek.com.au – the biggest job board in Australia; include “482 visa” or “sponsorship” in your search
https://www.indeed.com.au – another popular site where you can try the same search terms
You may also want to explore Designated Area Migration Agreements (DAMAs) – some regions in Australia have agreements that allow sponsorship for occupations not usually eligible.
Gaining an Australian-recognised qualification, such as a Certificate III in Urban Pest Management, can help improve your chances. Some employers may be more willing to sponsor you if you already have, or are working towards, the necessary Australian licences.
Let me know if you’d like more help with this or need help contacting potential employers.
All the best
Mark

Hi Mehboob, thanks for sharing more about your background!
With 10 years of plumbing experience in Saudi Arabia, you could be a strong candidate for jobs in Australia—especially with your interest in learning new techniques and working on innovative projects.
The good news is that plumbers (ANZSCO 334111) are listed on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL), which means you’re eligible for skilled visa pathways like the Subclass 482 (Temporary Skill Shortage visa) and Subclass 186 (Employer Nomination Scheme), among others.
To find sponsored jobs, I strongly recommend you start with our job board at https://482jobs.com. All listings there are confirmed as offering visa sponsorship.
You can also explore:
When using Seek or Indeed, try searching for terms like “plumber 482 visa” or “plumbing sponsorship” to filter relevant roles.
