    January 31, 2025 at 7:46 am in reply to: Nomination(190 & 491) – What it Actually Means

G’day Thomas 🙂 You’re not alone in your confusion, many applicants find the wording on the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) website a bit tricky when it comes to state and territory nomination for visas:

Here is an overview of how State/Territory Nomination Works

    1. Expression of Interest (EOI) Comes First

You must first submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) in SkillSelect , indicating whether you’re interested in a 190 (permanent) visa or a 491 (provisional regional) visa.

In your EOI, you can select which states/territories you’re interested in (or allow any state/territory to nominate you).

Simply selecting a state or territory in your EOI does not automatically earn you nomination points.

    2. State/Territory Nomination Must Be Approved Separately

Each Australian state and territory has its own nomination criteria, separate from DHA requirements.

To be nominated, you must usually apply directly to the state/territory government (some states automatically pick candidates, but most require you to actively apply for nomination).

If a state or territory assesses your profile and decides to nominate you, your EOI is updated, and you receive 15 points (491 visa) or 5 points (190 visa).

    3. Receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) from DHA

Once you have a state/territory nomination, your EOI will be updated with extra points.

The Australian Government (DHA) then issues invitations based on ranking—having a state nomination boosts your chances.

If invited, you can then lodge your visa application.

    Tl/DR Answer to Your Question:

Your original impression that submitting an EOI and selecting a state/territory automatically grants you the nomination points is incorrect.🥴

Instead, a state or territory must formally nominate you first, and only then do you receive the extra points in SkillSelect.

This means that nomination happens before you receive an invitation but after you submit an EOI.

    Does that make sense?

    Regards

Sorry Abdullah, I don’t have WhatsApp.if you need one on one support I’d suggest saving so you can engage with a migration agent.

On the cost front. If you want to move to Australia, spending money is unavoidable. You will need to spend money for things such as English tests, skills assessments, visa fees etc.

This is a discussion forum and we are able to help guide you through discussions here.

So far you have said that you are a painter.

I have shared the official description for a painter to ensure your experience aligns with what the Australian Migration department is expecting.

I can guide you and suggest visa options but I need you to confirm the link I have shared is link (no payments required)

Hi Veronika, I checked in with the small team who post jobs for us over at 482jobs.com to get a sense check for the popularity for marketing roles and I’m afraid the general consensus was that they are generally a little thin on the ground.

I’m guessing the ability to work remotely I’m marketing may be a driver 🤔

In more positive news. There are certainly a lot of marketing companies based in Sydney so a focused networking campaign might not hurt your efforts in the short term

Hello again, Abdullah – does your experience align with the description here?

Once we have confirmed your occupation from an Australian migration perspective, we can look at visa options for you.

January 30, 2025 at 1:13 pm in reply to: Sponsorship for Agriculture relating Jobs

Ok, so we will go with Agricultural technician, which is defined from an occupational perspective here.

This particular role is on the Regional Occupations List (ROL), which probably makes sense given the locations of the majority of the Australian agricultural industry.

Since this occupation is on the ROL, most available visas require sponsorship by an employer or a state/territory government.

    High-Level Next Steps:

    1. Assess Your Eligibility:

      • Check if you meet the skills, qualifications, and experience requirements for Agricultural Technician.
      • You may need a skills assessment from VETASSESS (the designated assessing authority).
    2. Choose a Visa Pathway:

      • Employer-Sponsored Visas: Require a job offer from an Australian employer.
        • 482 (TSS) Visa – Medium-Term Stream – Temporary work visa with a pathway to PR.
        • 494 (Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional) – Leads to PR after 3 years.
        • 186 (Employer Nomination Scheme) – Direct PR but requires 3 years’ experience.
      • Skilled Migration (Points-Based): Requires state/territory nomination.
        • 491 (Skilled Work Regional) – Provisional – Requires state/territory nomination and leads to PR (subclass 191).
      • Training Visa (407): Temporary visa for workplace-based training (not a PR pathway).
    3. Secure Sponsorship or Nomination:

      • Find an employer willing to sponsor you or check state nomination requirements (491 visa).
    4. Lodge an Expression of Interest (EOI) (if required):

      • For 491 visa, submit an EOI in SkillSelect and wait for an invitation.
    5. Apply for the Visa:

      • Once nominated/sponsored, lodge your visa application with supporting documents (skills assessment, English test, work experience, etc.).

I appreciate that is a lot of options – do you have any thoughts on which patch you’d like to take.

In theory, you could lodge an EOI for a 491 Visa and, while waiting for an invitation, investigate other options.

However, having a skills assessment is probably key, so I’d research the process via the VETACCESS website I’ve linked above.

    All the best

It really depends on the job market and your Australia points score Taniya.

Can you take a look at the article here and give me a rough idea of what your score is?

In Perth, it tends to be a dry heat; it’s very hot but not humid. Queensland and the Northern Territory have this heat + humidity, which can be very uncomfortable.

Thankfully, air con is a staple in most homes and offices, so it’s still comfortable. You just wouldn’t want to have a run or take the dog for a walk until it cools down (Got Pavements on dog paws don’t go well together when it’s this hot) 🙂

Hope your car defrosted ok – It’s not as chilly here today, 😊 my greatest car challenge today will likely be avoiding 3rd degree burns when I touch the steering wheel 🥵 Fair to say the Aussie summer is well and truly here!
