Hey there, absolutely. It’s possible. However, can you please be a little more specific about your occupation?

For example, a waiter and a chef both work in hospitality, but their options are very different.🙂

Welcome Joseph. It’s nice to meet you virtually 🙂.

We see fitter roles advertised quite frequently though I’m unsure if they align with your specific example in fixed plant. We advertise these roles on one of our other websites at 482jobs which may be worth a look.

    https://482jobs.com/browse-jobs/?search_keywords=Fitter&search_location=&post_type=job_listing

If not suitable I’d recommend registering an account at 482jobs and registering a job alerts for the terms “fixed plant* and “fitter” so we can email you when additional roles are added by our small team to our database. 👍🏻

    Ah ok. Gotcha!

So generally the Australian migration Department requires that applicants have recent relevant experience (typically at least two years in the past five years) in the nominated occupation.

A long gap in the relevant field can make it difficult to demonstrate this.

With that said, I’m sure as an MD you probably get involved in lots of different elements of your role so theoretically you could demonstrate your involvement in elements of your job that equate to other occupations as well.

Although a concierge isn’t a occupation that currently qualifies there are a number of roles (restaurant managers and similar) that are advertised offering Visa sponsorship.

Here is an example of the skills you’d be expected to demonstrate you’ve undertaken in the last few years.

    https://www.abs.gov.au/ausstats/abs@.nsf/Product+Lookup/1220.0~First+Edition,+Revision+1~Chapter~UNIT+GROUP+1411+Cafe+and+Restaurant+Managers

    Might this be an avenue?

January 16, 2025 at 10:22 pm in reply to: Procurement specialist looking for Australia Sponsorship

So the “Procurement Manager” role is on Australia’s regional occupations list which means it qualifies though if you find a role you would need to work in regional Australia. Thankfully, that doesn’t mean the middle of nowhere as areas just outside the major city CBDs qualify as regional in most cases.

If you are at a specialist rather than a manager level currently you may struggle Chinenye.

Also, what category are you procuring as some skills in certain procurement categories are more in demand than others.

Hello mate, possibly one of the most popular questions I have seen over the years. The roles do exist but they seem far and few in-between at the moment.

We wrote a pretty comprehensive guide on the subject on one of our sister websites.

Take a read and let us know if you have further questions 👍

January 16, 2025 at 8:40 pm in reply to: Engineers migrating from Africa

Hey Desire and welcome. 🙂 Migrating to Australia as a recent graduate in Mining Engineering is possible through various skilled migration pathways.

    1. Skilled Migration Visas

Australia has a demand for mining engineers on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL).

    Relevant visa subclasses include:

Subclass 189 (Skilled Independent Visa) – Points-tested, does not require sponsorship.

Subclass 190 (Skilled Nominated Visa) – Requires nomination by an Australian state or territory.

Subclass 491 (Skilled Work Regional Visa) – For regional work; requires nomination or sponsorship.

    2. Eligibility Criteria

Skills Assessment: You must have your qualifications assessed by the relevant assessing authority for mining engineers (Engineers Australia). This involves proving your degree aligns with Australian standards.

Points Test: Points are awarded based on age, English proficiency, qualifications, and work experience.

Age: Maximum points for ages 18–32.

English: Take an English test (e.g., IELTS or PTE Academic) to demonstrate proficiency.

Work Experience: While recent graduates with limited experience can apply, additional work experience boosts points.

    3. Steps to Apply

    1. Complete a skills assessment through Engineers Australia.

    2. Submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) via SkillSelect.

    3. Wait for an invitation to apply for a visa.

    4. Prepare documents: academic transcripts, English test results, skills assessment, and health/character checks.

    4. Post-Study Work Pathway

If you’ve recently studied in Australia, you could qualify for the Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485), allowing you to gain Australian work experience.

Learn more about the subclass 485 here.

    Hi Chinenye and welcome 🙂

When you say non-profit. That’s actually quite a broad sector. Sponsorship is usually offered against a particular occupation. How would you define your job title?

    All the best

As an MD in my field of work… Direct Mail…this is not a big thing in WA and the companies I have spoken to just don’t have the financial background to support the salary needed based on the visa requirements.

Have you considered to apply for a role as a non MD/more junior manager position to get you here?

Also, does your wife work, have an occupation that might qualify?

Generally, you need to be able to demonstrate that you have the skills and experience for the role so that you are the most appropriate candidate (vs. a local Aussie who might say they could do the work as well).

If you have 20 years of experience in a role that requires 5, you would still be the most appropriate person for the role, even if the 5-year experience is the target benchmark.

I’m curious why other roles didn’t work out after job offers. Was this down to the $$ offered that you alluded to earlier?
