Hello @Madura and welcome to our community – its great to see you here.

Migrating to Australia with your family as an Agricultural Consultant (ANZSCO 234111) is a great goal! Let me break down the process into a few key steps for you.

Step 1: Understand Your Visa Options

At the time of typing, your occupation is on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL), meaning you’re eligible for several visa types. Each has different requirements. Here’s a quick overview of the most relevant ones:

    1. Skilled Independent Visa (subclass 189): No sponsorship required; points-tested.
    2. Skilled Nominated Visa (subclass 190): State government sponsorship required; points-tested.
    3. Skilled Work Regional (subclass 491): Family or state sponsorship; points-tested.
    4. Employer Sponsored Visas (186, 482, 494): Requires a job offer from an Australian employer.
    5. Regional Visas (187, 489): Focus on work in regional Australia.

Step 2: Points Test and Skills Assessment

Most skilled visas require you to meet a minimum points threshold (currently 65 points). Points are awarded based on:

    • Age: Maximum points if you’re aged 25–32.
    • English proficiency: High scores in an English test like IELTS or PTE.
    • Work experience: Points for relevant work in Australia or overseas.
    • Qualifications: Points for degrees or diplomas relevant to your occupation.
    • Other factors: State sponsorship, partner skills, etc.

We have a handy points calculator on our website at getting down under that shoul help: https://gettingdownunder.com/australian-migration-points-calculator/

You’ll also need a Skills Assessment to prove you’re qualified for the role. For Agricultural Consultant, the assessing authority is VETASSESS. Start by applying for your skills assessment here: https://www.vetassess.com.au.

Step 3: Expression of Interest (EOI)

Once your skills assessment is positive and you’ve calculated your points, submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) through the SkillSelect portal: https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/working-in-australia/skillselect. The EOI is not a visa application but shows your interest in migrating.

    • Choose the visa type(s) you qualify for (e.g., 189, 190, 491).
    • If applying for 190 or 491 (state-sponsored), check which states/territories nominate Agricultural Consultants and their specific requirements. Each state has its own rules.

Step 4: Receive an Invitation and Apply

    If your EOI is successful:

    1. You’ll receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for a visa.
    2. Submit your visa application online with supporting documents, such as:
      • Passport and family documents
      • Positive skills assessment
      • English test results
      • Proof of work experience and qualifications
      • Health and character checks.

    Step 5: Prepare for Relocation

Once your visa is approved, you can prepare to move to Australia with your family.

    • You may need to settle in a regional area (for 491 or 190 visas).
    • Plan school enrolments, housing, and work opportunities.

Exciting times ahead – there is much to do but your efforts will be worth it! 😊

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

    Regards

Welcome to Oz Visa Forum @Vir . Are you able to provide a little more information, such as your skills and background?

Most Australian Visas are skilled base, so this will give us a helpful starting point to guide you. 😊

Hello, Mide, and welcome to our community – Thanks for the question; it’s certainly an interesting one.

Your situation raises important questions about visa conditions and compliance. Based on my research on the matter, here are some key points to consider.

    1. Visa Conditions on the 407 Visa:

      • The 407 (Training) visa usually has specific conditions requiring you to work only for the sponsoring employer listed in your visa grant. Condition 8102 (no work outside the program) or 8106 (work restriction tied to the sponsoring employer) typically applies. Breaching these conditions could lead to visa cancellation.
    2. Applying for a 482 Visa:

      • You can apply for a new visa, such as the 482 (Temporary Skill Shortage) visa, even while holding a 407 visa. However, applying for the 482 does not automatically give you permission to work for another employer unless the 482 is granted.
    3. Potential Issues With a 482 Application:

      • The Department of Home Affairs might scrutinise your 482 application if your current 407 visa hasn’t been utilised as intended (e.g., not working for your sponsoring employer). They could question whether you’re meeting the purpose of the 407 and whether your new employer genuinely needs to sponsor you under the 482 program.
      • Your new employer would need to meet the labour market testing requirements and prove that your role is genuine and aligns with the 482 visa criteria.
    4. Seeking Employment While on a 407 Visa:

      • You can explore potential employers who are eligible to sponsor you for a 482 visa. However, you cannot legally work for another employer while holding the 407 visa unless your visa conditions allow it or you’ve transitioned to a new visa.

To avoid breaching your 407 visa conditions, I’d just contact your current sponsor to clarify the delay in your start date. If your sponsor agrees, consider formally cancelling your 407 visa and transitioning your focus to a 482 visa with a new employer.

This is a tricky case so if you haven’t already, I’d recommend consulting a registered migration agent or immigration lawyer to ensure compliance with visa conditions.

    All the best

None that I am aware of right now Wayne. I’m not sure if your wife has an occupation that might be useful?

Another option is you look to align your background with the General Manager Corporate role as this would provide access to the following visa options:

    • 186 – Employer Nomination Scheme visa (subclass 186)
    • 407 – Training visa (subclass 407)
    • 482 – Temporary Skill Shortage (subclass 482) – Medium Term Stream
    • 187 – Regional Sponsor Migration Scheme (subclass 187)
    • 494 – Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (provisional) (subclass 494) – Employer sponsored stream.

As part of a skills assessed could you demonstrate and evidence experience aligned with this role?

    https://www.abs.gov.au/statistics/classifications/osca-occupation-standard-classification-australia/2024-version-1-0/browse-classification/1/12/121/1212/121231

Note For both Subclass 186 and 482, caveats apply to Corporate General Manager, meaning:

The business must not operate solely in retail, fast food, or limited other industries which may limit your role options should you decide to go down this route.

Ultimately I may be plucking at straws though in isolation of having a suitable replacement investment visa, it’s important to consider what other occupations your skills and experience could apply as visa options are in most cases aligned with occupation groups.

    Hello again.🙂

It sounds like you have some transferable skills though with sponsored job opportunities it also comes down to you being to convince employers that you are the most suitable candidate for the role. If not you will struggle to secure interviews for these positions in Australia.

Ultimately, if you applied for aged care roles where you are now, do you think you would have a high chance of success?

From an Australia immigration perspective you’d typically be expected to be able to demonstrate you have experience aligned with the ANZSCO code for the role. https://www.abs.gov.au/ausstats/abs@.nsf/0/71895BF7C1455656CA2575DF002DA5D4?opendocument.

    Hi Lawrence.

Rather than copying and pasting the whole article, I’d take a look at the guide we shared on 482jobs here: https://482jobs.com/sponsored-truck-driver-jobs-in-australia/

This breaks down the process and options and details some of the main trucking companies that operate in Australia.

Being successful in securing sponsorship as a truck driver will likely require a multi-pronged approach.

Please have a read of the linked article and let me know if you have any further clarification questions.

Hey Lawrence, we can certainly offer assistance in the sense we can help guide you on the process and answer any questions.

It’s funny you ask as we posted this thread earlier today. Australia needs truck drivers though the process isn’t that easy.

    Hello Gialloc

For your husband, vehicle painter is on the regional occupation lists and would qualify for a number of sponsored visas subject to him being able to secure a job offer offer from an employer or a state. We advertise jobs offering visa sponsorship via our website https://482jobs.com

Panel beater would likely be the better option as this role is on the Medium to long term occupations list which will enable him to apply for a number of different Australia visas independently of the need for a sponsor

The subclass 189 visa is a points tested visa and he would need to have his skills assessed before registering an Expression of interest.

We have a points test guide here which will help understand how many points he would qualify for. He would need more than 65 points to enable him to apply for the 189 visa (other options are also available).

Thanks for the info Melchior. Do you have any formal experience in aged care. These roles are quite popular with overseas migrants so it might be a good occupation to target of you have the experience. ☺️

Hello Beatrice and welcome to our community. 🙂

Since your occupation as a Special Education Needs Teacher is on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL), you have some great opportunities and a number of visa options..

To help you get started, here are some suggested next steps and official resources:

    1. Skills Assessment

As a teacher, you’ll need a skills assessment through the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL).

Check their requirements here: AITSL Skills Assessment.

    2. Expression of Interest (EOI) for Skilled Visas

For visas like subclass 189, 190, or 491, submit an EOI through SkillSelect.

    SkillSelect details: SkillSelect.

    3. Employer-Sponsored Visas

For visas like 186, 482, or 494, you’ll need to secure a job offer from an Australian employer who can sponsor you.

    Explore teaching job vacancies here:

Sponsored Jobs in Australia (our website)

    Teach in Australia

    4. Regional Opportunities

Consider teaching in regional areas for better visa pathways (subclasses 491, 494, or 187). Regional areas have a higher demand for teachers.

Learn about regional sponsorship here: Regional Australia.

    5. Temporary Visas

The 407 Training Visa or 485 Graduate Visa could be great for gaining Australian experience. Learn more here:

    407 Visa

    485 Visa.

I know that is a lot of links and information however, please have a read and let us know if you have any questions.

    I hope this helps 🙂
