Thankfully, that doesn’t mean the middle of nowhere as areas just outside the major city CBDs qualify as regional in most cases.

If you are at a specialist rather than a manager level currently you may struggle Chinenye.

Also, what category are you procuring as some skills in certain procurement categories are more in demand than others.

1. Skilled Migration Visas

Australia has a demand for mining engineers on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL).

Relevant visa subclasses include:

Subclass 189 (Skilled Independent Visa) – Points-tested, does not require sponsorship.

Subclass 190 (Skilled Nominated Visa) – Requires nomination by an Australian state or territory.

Subclass 491 (Skilled Work Regional Visa) – For regional work; requires nomination or sponsorship.

2. Eligibility Criteria

Skills Assessment: You must have your qualifications assessed by the relevant assessing authority for mining engineers (Engineers Australia). This involves proving your degree aligns with Australian standards.

Points Test: Points are awarded based on age, English proficiency, qualifications, and work experience.

As an MD in my field of work… Direct Mail…this is not a big thing in WA and the companies I have spoken to just don’t have the financial background to support the salary needed based on the visa requirements.

Have you considered to apply for a role as a non MD/more junior manager position to get you here?

Also, does your wife work, have an occupation that might qualify?

Hello Alankar, when you say bicycle mechanic, do you mean a motorcycle or a pedal bike?

If the former, this would fall under the “Motor Mechanic” occupation, which qualifies for several visa options, including sponsored roles under the TSS/482 Visa class.

If you are a mechanic who works on peddle bikes🚲, I don’t believe this occupation currently qualifies, though I’d need to research this further.

If doesn’t really work like that unfortunately Alankar. 😕To qualify for a visa your occupation has to be on one of the Australian occupations list. At the time of typing bicycle mechanic is not on any of the lists. You can read all about the lists and view the current occupations here:

Note, just because bicycle mechanic is not on the list today doesn’t mean it won’t be in the future. Ebikes are becoming increasingly popular here in Australia.

Hi Zeinab, if you are looking at sponsored options, there are two elements.

1. Apply for and be offered a job that offers visa sponsorship (the employer will handle most of the paperwork and forms for you).

2. Registration with AHPRA – Some companies will sponsor you without it though the majority will expect your to registered,

I would recommend you research and look to progress your AHPRA membership first as this is an important step that validates your qualifications are comparable to those expected by Australian Medical employers.
